CHRISTMAS TREASURES & MORE
The best one yet describes Christmas Treasures & More 2018! More Redeemerites  were involved before, during, and after December 1. The parish hall was buzzing as parishioners and people from Springfield and surrounding communities made their way to the parish hall. Thank you to all who helped, donated, and were in attendance that Saturday. A special thank you to the heads of the various sections of CT & M. I am happy to report that in addition to providing an event that so many in the area look forward to, we made a profit of about $6,500 - our highest ever! Give yourselves a huge pat on the back. Also, the Thrift Shop had one of their most successful days ever!

PS There is still some soup available for purchase. The quart containers are still frozen and are now on sale for $6 per quart or 2 quarts for $10. See Rick or me if you are interested.
PPS When putting your Christmas decorations away, are you ready to get rid of some of them? If so leave the items on the stage. Mark your bag or box CT &M.

Adult Forum
We continue to read "Walk in Love", by Scott Gunn & Melody Wilson Shobe. The book's subject is Episcopal Beliefs and Practices. This morning we will discuss chapter 19, "A Great Cloud of Witnesses", about the Communion of Saints. From 9:00 am to 9:45 am in the parish hall. All are welcome.

This Sunday - A Message from George Baughan
This Sunday we will get back to regular classes after an opening down in the corner room. For part of the time we will be creating envelopes for our offerings throughout the year.

I will be holding classes after church for any confirmand who needs to make up classes. Confirmands need to be thinking about who they want to be their mentors. Some of you have indicated you have made your choices, but others need to decide who would help them make the transition to being an adult member of the congregation.

See you Sunday,
George

Holy Eucharist

Souper Bowl of Caring
Our annual Souper Bowl luncheon will take place after the 10:15 am service on Sunday, January, 27th. We request that you bring food  stap les for St. Mary's Food Cupboard or make a monetary donation in return for a bowl of homemade soup and bread. Extra soup will be sold after the lunch.
St. Mary's is currently providing food for over 100 families each week. The need will only increase with the reduction in food stamp allotments and the cut -off of unemployment benefits. The monthly allotment has been reduced by 21 meals a month for a family of four.
Our collection is part of the Souper Bowl of Caring campaign in Springfield. Bags and flyers will be distributed on January 19th with the food collection on February 3rd. Please be generous.

Announcements

Church Cleaners
For 2019 we are looking for volunteers to join a team of church cleaners who will assume responsibility for those areas not covered under our contract with our bi-monthly cleaning service. The team would meet once a week to clean, dust and vacuum the church, hall and rest rooms. If you think you would like to join, please see Father David or Ruth Ward or call the church office on 610 544 8113.

Women's Retreat  - January 22-24, 2019
Ruth and David Beresford will lead a Women's Retreat at Memorial House in Rehoboth Beach from Tuesday, January 22 through Thursday, January 24, 2019 and all women in the parishes of Christ Church Christiana Hundred and Redeemer are invited to attend. Enjoy time for quiet reflection as well as lively discussions, sharing, and social time. The cost is $200 per person and includes five meals and two nights at Memorial House. For information contact Marty Rushlow at [email protected] or call (302) 654-8629.

Offering Envelopes
Offering envelopes for 2019 are available for pick-up on the counter at the rear of the sanctuary. If you do not see a box with your name on it and would like one, please contact the church office.

Thank You
From Mildred Knorr for the holiday Christmas card signed by the children of the congregation, a very meaningful remembrance which helps her feel connected to the church even though she is no longer able to attend regularly.

Kitchen Etiquette
1. Please put all empty plastic water bottles and any paper in the yellow recycle bin in the fellowship hall and not in the trash cans.

2. Please empty coffee cups in the sink before disposing of them in the trash cans. It will keep the trash can liners clean and the liners will be able to be used more than once.

3. When taking the black trash bags outside to the trash bin area, please put the trash bags in the big trash receptacles and close the lid. This will keep the critters from chewing through the bags and scattering the trash all over the area.

Apartment Needed
Affordable one-bedroom apartment/studio needed for family member. Please see Gary Rew or call 509-388-5829.

On the cover it says  "For those in need..."  In the book please write in the names of those who need our prayers. Please enter the name and the date (and reason, if you wish). At every Eucharist and at Evening Prayer, we will pray for those named in the book. After a month, the person's name will be removed from our prayers, unless it is entered anew.

Please pray for those who need healing and comfort:

Emma, Mathew, Ruth, Ry, Nan, Joe Atkinson, Charlie Bachinelli, Jan Briggs, Betty Brown, Marlaine Brown, Gloria Crowl,
Jean Flohr, Nancy Flohr,  Leslie Gibson, Dottie Harrelson,

Please pray for the departed O Lord especially Janette,  rest eternal grant unto them and let light perpetual shine upon them.

Heavenly Father, giver of life and health: Comfort and relieve your sick servants, and give your power of healing to those who minister to their needs, that those for whom our prayers are offered may be strengthened in their weakness and have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,  one God,  now and forever.   Amen.

Altar Flower Dedications

Sponsoring our Sunday altar flowers is a great way to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, remember a loved one who has passed, or mark any other special occasion.  The suggested donation is $20 per arrangement, which offsets the cost of the flowers provided by Leary's Florist.  If you wish to sponsor the flowers, please submit your name and preferred wording of the dedication to [email protected] or in a note placed in the offering plate.

Property Team
Things To Be Done Around Redeemer Notebook

If you notice something that needs attention around the campus (i.e. leaky toilet, broken light, etc.), please record it in the black & white  notebook in the Property Team's mailbox outside the church office.

Blue Gift
Gift of Angels

There are expenses that pop up that are not included in our annual operating budget, and this program covers those.

Your gift to the Gift of Angels program can be in the form of a monetary donation or a gift-in-kind and can be made in thanksgiving or in memory of someone. It can cover all or part of an item on the wish list.  All gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  You will receive recognition of your gift, and all gifts are recorded in our Book of Memorials and Gifts.

The Wish List currently includes: weed control supplies, floor buffer and pads and chairs for the Parish Hall.

Please make checks payable to Church of the Redeemer and designate Gift of Angels or your specific designation on the memo line.

Your consideration of support for this campaign is greatly appreciated!

St. Mary's Food Cupboard

During the month of November St. Mary's volunteers contributed 300 hours, provided 7410 meals to 494 people and distributed 16,015 pounds of food to those in need.

Riddle Hospital's Hospice Comfort Cart

In an effort to improve the care they provide, Riddle Hospital has created a Comfort Cart for their patients who have been placed on hospice care.  The goal is to make each patient's room a calm environment while addressing the psycho-social and spiritual needs of patients and their families. They are seeking donations of prayer books and small bibles, religious items such as rosaries or icons; 3' x 4' blankets which are placed on the patients and taken home by the family after their loved one passes away. If you wish to help, please contact Stefanie McMahon at [email protected] or (484) 227-3240.
