Basil Business Alliance
In 2019, the BBA will be hosting a series of events geared towards professionals and students working in or looking to work in various fields. Each event will begin with a brief panel discussion by professionals regarding trends in their industry, and will be followed by a networking reception. EITC Meeting
The Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program authorizes tax credits for businesses and individuals that make contributions to educational improvement. This program is unique to Pennsylvania in that it allows you to make charitable contributions based on the amount of Pennsylvania state taxes you or your business pays. A business, for instance, may receive a tax credit equal to 75% of its contribution to an eligible Educational Improvement Organization, such as Saint Basil Academy, up to a maximum of $750,000 per taxable year. Tax credits may be increased to 90% of the contribution made if the business agrees to provide the same amount of contribution to an organization for two consecutive years.

Saint Basil Academy Honors Maureen (McKeown) Walsh '79
It is with great pride that Saint Basil Academy announces that Maureen Walsh will be honored as the 2019 Pillar of Success. Maureen's commitment to Catholic Education and Saint Basil Academy in particular, is unparalleled. Her role here extended beyond alumnae, she is also a parent of three Saint Basil graduates (Bridget '01, Meghan '03, and Caitlin '06), and served as a dedicated staff member for many years. Maureen's work as the Director of Admissions brought so many talented young women through the doors of Saint Basil Academy, and helped to provide academic, extracurricular, and leadership opportunities to thousands of women. Maureen will be honored on Saturday, April 6 at the 2019 Auction.

Last month, Saint Basil Academy Seniors were invited to an advanced screening of On The Basis Of Sex, a film documenting the beginning of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's career. Check out the article on philly.com that talks about the film and its importance, especially for young women.
The Mock Trial team is preparing for the 2019 PBA/YLD Mock Trial Competition, which is one of the largest in the nation. So many alumnae returned this year over break to help out. Thank you to Dianna Gavrykh '17, Amanda O'Brien '18, Alex Djugninov '17, Brenda Jones '17, Emily Lanzetta '16, Gina Vreeland '16 for all of your help and continued support of the program!
The Broadcast Journalism class had two awesome guest speakers this month: Kimberly Donahue '15, a senior at Hofstra University who has done internships with MSNBC's Morning Joe, Anton Media Group, New York 1, and ABC 7 NY and has served as the News Director for WHRU Radio, and Helen Starrs '15, a senior at LaSalle University who is currently doing an internship with WMMR. Thank you for coming to share your experiences!

Track
The track team competed in the New York Armory's Marine Corps Holiday Classic, which draws teams from all over the East Coast. Freshman Alina LaForest won and broke the freshman girls 800 meter record by running 2:16.5 which currently places her first in the State, and also placed 8th in 400 in 59.2.
Sophomore Tia Taylor won the sophomore long jump in 18-2 which broke the meet record of 16-3.50 and currently places her first in the State.
Tia Taylor, Sasha Lee and Jayla Bernard went 1, 2, 3 in the sophomore 55 hurdle race. Tia broke the record with an 8.60.
Lastly, the sprint medley team (400, 200, 200, 800) of Taylor Thomas, Sasha Lee, Tia Taylor and Alina LaForest placed 4th with a time of 4:15.27 which currently places them first in the State.
Basketball
The Basketball team won the Holiday Hoopla Tournament, hosted at Eastern Aalamance High School in North Carolina. Senior Casey Remolde received MVP, Junior Lizzie Deal and Sophomore Denae Carter received all-tournament.

Becoming
by Michelle Obama. Students were excited to read about Mrs. Obama's formative experiences growing up in Chicago, experiences in college and beyond, and thoughts on the importance of leadership roles in the lives of young women.
