Dear Parents,
 
We hope everyone is staying warm with these crazy cold temperatures this week.

Next week (week of February 4th) Riverside school students will participate in the Great Kindness Challenge.  Look for "kindness checklists" in your child's backpack together - put together by our Student Leadership Council.  More details are below in the School News section.

Also please consider any teachers you feel have gone above and beyond over the past year to nominate them for a Distinguished Teachers Award.  The deadline is March 7.  More details are below in the School News section.

NORM EVENT  
As an extension of the Be Safe event, GPS is hosting a  community event on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cos Cob Fire House. This is an opportunity to meet the people who keep you safe- police officers, firefighters and paramedics. Fun activities, drinks and snacks will be provided!
GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE
During the week of February 4-8, Riverside students will participate in the Great Kindness Challenge. There are acts of kindness that happen every day in our school, but this week, we will celebrate and appreciate the students, teachers, and staff for the kindness they spread. On this Friday, optional kindness checklists will be sent home for each student. 
This lists are ideas that our Student Leadership Council have created but we encourage students to personalize their kindness.
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC BEE RESULTS!
Congratulations to all the 4th and 5th grade student participants who made it to the final round of the National Geographic Bee here at Riverside. Special congratulations to our 1st place winner, Will Evans, 2nd place winner Charlie Madden, and 3rd place winner, Jayden Zych!
YOUR CHILD'S DIGITAL LIFE
Mrs. Browning will continue leading her series of sessions for parents about digital citizenship, research tools, and the key apps used in school.  Please mark your calendars for these upcoming sessions:
  • Tuesday, February 26th - Familiarize Yourself with Our School's Research Tools and Databases 
  • Tuesday, March 26th - Getting to Know Schoology and Google Drive
All sessions will be held from 2:00pm-3:00pm in the Media Center.

DISTINGUISHED  TEACHERS AWARDS 2019
Nominate a Greenwich Public Schools Distinguished Teacher!
Nomination Submission Deadline: March 7, 2019
The Greenwich Distinguished Teachers Awards Committee, Inc. (DTAC) encourages parents, students, colleagues and community members to nominate a Greenwich Public Schools teacher to receive a 2019 Distinguished Teachers Award. Nomination packets are available at each of the schools and on the  Greenwich Public Schools website.

GHS GIRLS BASKETBALL SENIOR NIGHT 2019
The GHS Girls Basketball Program is celebrating Senior Night this coming Tuesday, February 5 at 5:15 and we are combining it with Youth Night! 

The first 75 girls get a FREE shirt! Come cheer on the Cardinals and celebrate the seniors' last home game at Greenwich High School Gym, 10 Hillside Road, Greenwich.
MAGNET PROGRAM OPEN HOUSE INFORMATION
The Greenwich Public Schools (GPS) are proud to offer choice to the families of Greenwich that may wish to apply to any of the District's four elementary magnet schools and one middle school magnet program: 
- Hamilton Avenue School - STEM
- The International School at Dundee -  International Baccalaureate
- Julian Curtiss School - World Languages
- New Lebanon School - International Baccalaureate
- Western Middle School - Theme Pending

The GPS Magnet Schools have scheduled Open Houses throughout January 2019 for families interested in learning more about each program and the application process. The deadline for application for the 2019-2020 school year is February 8, 2019 .

The new New Lebanon School facility, the District's first 'next generation' school facility will be opening this school year and will be providing additional magnet seats for the 2019-2020 school year.

TWICE EXCEPTIONAL PARENT ROUNTABLES
Mark your calendars for the upcoming Parent Roundtables in a private home in Cos Cob. 

The  Upcoming  Parent Roundtables will be 
- Thursday, February 28th at 9:30am
- Tuesday, May 2nd at 9:30am

The PTAC 2E Committee Roundtable provides an opportunity for parents/guardians to share information and resources to help each child realize his/her fullest potential.  Twice Exceptional (2E) refers to students who are both advanced or "gifted" and have a learning disability/difference (EDS).
