Faculty Spotlight - Dr. Greg Anderson, Department of History
Dr. Greg Anderson, associate professor in the Department of History, was recently awarded the University's highest recognition for teaching excellence, the Ohio State Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. Frequently recognized for his teaching, this most recent award is his eighth teaching award, Dr. Anderson focuses on ancient Greece, historical thought and critical theory. He is recognized for making his courses relevant to all students from those with a casual interest in Greek history to graduate students who specialize in this area. Outside of Ohio State Dr. Anderson plays electric bass in a classic rock band.

Dean's Student Advisory Board - Apply for a Position
The College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Student Advisory Board is seeking three students to serve a two-year term as an undergraduate student representative. One representative will be selected from each of the three college divisions: Arts and Humanities, Natural and Mathematical Sciences and Social and Behavioral Sciences. In order to be eligible, students must be pursuing a degree in the arts and sciences on the Columbus campus and not plan to graduate until after Spring 2021. Meetings are held once a month during the academic year from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. on a weekday with the days of the week varying. New Student Organization - The Sports Analytics Association
The Sports Analytics Association will begin meetings in the Spring of 2019. They aim to foster student interest in the application of analytical methods to sports, to widen the scope of sports analysis, and to provide opportunities for students to develop a broad range of analytical tools. Visit them at the Involvement Fair on January 17th or check out their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SportsAnalyticsAssociation for their schedule and additional information on extracting value from sports data.

2019 Spring Career Fair
This annual event is a great way to find your next internship or to kickstart your career after graduation. Top employers from around the country will be recruiting. The career fair will have career and internship opportunities for students from all majors. Bring copies of your resume, bring your BuckID for entrance and dress for success. Preregistration is not required, but is encouraged through
Handshake.

Career Success
Do you know the feeling you get when an employer asks you to "Tell me about yourself"? Don't worry - Career Success is here to help! We have five Career Coaches to assist as you prepare. First, create an elevator pitch. An elevator pitch is a short statement about yourself and your abilities that answers:
1. Who are you and what do you do?
2. What skills do you have that add value in many situations?
3. What goal do you have that is relevant to the position you want?
Your pitch should be personable and include questions about the interviewer or their company. Don't forget to have a resume on hand. Prepare by practicing at the Spring Career Fair. Career Success offers walk-in services to help you clean-up your resume. If you want to dive deeper into preparing for the Fair, schedule a meeting with one of five Career Coaches through Handshake. |

Pathways to Sustainability Careers
Learn about the variety of careers that impact sustainability by meeting with representatives from business, government, and non-profit sectors who are helping make our society more sustainable through their current jobs. The event is designed to maximize time for students to interact with the professionals with no speeches or presentations to sit through. Register for the event
here (for a chance to win a $50 REI gift card) or simply show up. The event is free to Ohio State students. Light refreshments will be provided.

Arts and Sciences Merit and Need-Based Scholarships
Merit and need-based funding is available for currently enrolled students pursuing a major in the humanities and/or the natural and mathematical sciences. Funds will be applied toward 2019 - 2020 enrollment. Eligibility information and the online application are located

Aida Cannarsa Snow Endowment Fund Scholarship
This fund provides need-based scholarships to students who plan to pursue a career in publishing or publication. In order to be eligible, applicants must have a current FAFSA on file with Student Financial Aid. Funds will be applied toward 2019 - 2020 enrollment. Online application.

Dresden Summer Language Program
The Dresden Summer Language Program is an eight-week, intensive language and culture program offered at the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD).
Students will
experience a unique opportunity to cultivate language skills in an immersion environment,
study the recent history of Dresden and Saxony, and explore
the rich cultural tradition of contemporary Germany.
In addition to classroom instruction offered by Ohio State German instructors and guest lecturers, students will participate in group field trips and have ample opportunities to explore on their own. Read more and visit

Become a Sesquicentennial Scholar
In the 2019-20 academic year, Ohio State celebrates its 150th anniversary, known as its sesquicentennial. In honor of this milestone, the university will select 150 students to participate in the Sesquicentennial Student Scholar Leadership Program. Selected students will receive a $2,500 scholarship while participating in a leadership development program and representing Ohio State as sesquicentennial ambassadors.
This scholarship is renewable up to a maximum of 8 semesters (including the 2019-20 academic semesters) or upon completion of the current degree program, whichever comes first. Renewed scholarships will be overseen by the Office of Academic Affairs and the respective college of each scholar.
Any student in good standing currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or profe
ssional program on any Ohio State campus is eligible to apply.

Find a Mindful Moment
Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine. Mindfulness is paying attention in three particular ways: on purpose, in the moment and without judgment. Slow down to fully appreciate and be present in the moment. Choose an activity and completely focus on this activity as slowly as you can while being aware of all your senses (i.e., sound, taste, smell, touch, and sight). Practice a mindful moment each day when you spend time quietly savoring something! Fully engaging in savoring food, taking a walk, looking at nature, or listening to soothing music has many

Science Sundays- Going Through the Quantum Tunnel
Nadya Mason is a professor of physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and director of the Illinois Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. This talk will bridge the divide between popular imaginations of quantum and real quantum mechanical devices, covering the basics of quantum mechanics and how it creates both limits and promise for computer processing.

The Digital Union is more than just a high tech computer lab. They offer free 3-D printing, state of the art video and audio studios, meeting space and more. They can help with things like manipulating images in Photoshop, merging PDF files, editing video, graphing data in Excel, formatting a lab report, recording a voiceover, and scanning photos.
