We hope your new year is off to a great start. Eric started the first project box of the new year with his
“Shello 2019”
theme. The kids had a shell of a time partaking in several Shelly projects like decorating frames using shells Eric found on his trip to his sister's in Chesapeake Bay.
During Katelyn’s “Hand Lettering” week, kids were able to practice and write in various fonts on different kinds of material such as wood, our chalkboard wall, and canvas. Things got a little creepy crawly, in Maddie’s “Bug Out” project week as she focused on different projects centered around different bugs. Kids were able to make DIY clothes hanger butterflies, marble beetles, and sculpey clay bugs.
Many of us know the Superbowl is here and whether MAP kids are rooting for the Rams or the Patriots, everyone enjoyed Kurt’s “Superbowl Party” week. Kids created tasty treats that would be the center of attention at any Superbowl gathering, like Patriot smoothies,football-shaped rice krispie cakes, and pigs-in-a blanket. While we’re on the topic of pigs, in Desiree’s project week “Year of the Pigs” kids designed various pig related projects like origami pig bookmarks and minecraft pigs. According to the Chinese zodiac, the pig symbolizes honesty, reliability, sincerity, and understanding. All attributes we hope to obtain and maintain here at MAP.
Other exciting things happening at MAP
:
We updated our creation station, which is now “
Create your own Board Game
” where kids can design their own board games with cards and recycled pieces from older board games.
We also now have
“HOOPS”
, an electronic arcade basketball game. This is the item we purchased from a portion of the money we raised at the Holiday Stroll. The kids absolutely
love it
and the teachers as well!
We’ve also started a new project on our chalkboard cabinets designed with the kid’s hand lettering and some of their photos throughout this year. Be sure to check it out next time you walk in!
New Round of Clubs
:
Crafting Around the World Club
with Leah on Monday’s: kids have begun to design intricate clay trinket bowls with shells and beads, that resemble bowls used during ancient Rome.
Out of This World Club
with Katelyn on Tuesday’s: kids have begun decorating their own spacecraft and aliens. They also had the opportunity to learn more what astronauts eat on orbit and enjoyed some dehydrated fruits.
Dungeons and Dragon’s Club with Tom on Wednesday’s
: kids have been able to learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons while also creating their own characters and understanding the origins of the game?
Printmaking Club
with Desiree on Thursday’s: kids have begun developing their own stamp like pads in order to make fabulous works of art. They have used materials such as cardboard, yarn, and even vegetables to produce various kinds of prints.
Funtastic Fridays
:
We decided to make our Fridays even more fun by adding in some mini clubs. The kids choose what activities they wanted to do. For the first three weeks, kids decided on Nerf Wars which has been a blast! Our next 3 weeks of Funtastic Friday will be “Foody Fridays” in which we will experiment with different recipes.

Snow and Cold:
Please try everything to get your child to prepare themselves to play in the cold and snow. Although they love playing in the snow we realize they don't want to bother with snow gear. Nevertheless, we love the opportunity to build forts and snow sculptures when we can.
