St. Cyril 60th Celebration!

Despite the temporary rainfall, there was lots of fun to be had at the 60th Anniversary on Sep 21.  Our classes created items for the time capsule, local dignitaries attended with congratulatory words, prizes were won at the games, bellies were filled from the BBQ, ice cream truck and smiles were seen as students danced in the flash mob.

To further celebrate St. Cyril's 60th anniversary, Groupe Media TFO is offering two months free on their French educational platform IDELLO, for parents and students. Create an account today using the following link and you will have free access to thousands of French learning resources covering all elementary subjects for all grades, even kindergarten! For more information please click on this link:  www.idello.org/StCyril

Time Capsule Plan

We have created the time capsule with the items the classes created and attendees at the 60th Anniversary and it is now stored at the school. We are planning to dig up the old time capsule we learned about from a past student and have the contents on display during the Christmas concerts. The school will communicate the date it will be opened shortly

Spirit Wear

Reminder that you can submit an order to purchase optional St Cyril Panthers Spirit Wear items (t-shirts, hoodies) through  Cash Online . Orders due Oct 26, 2018.

The parent council is considering offering additional items later this year. More details will be communicated in the coming months.

Other Important Items

Leftover Hallowe'en Candy
Please bring in any hard candy from your Hallowe'en stash as St Cyril will be donating it to Dr. Simone at Canadian Feed the Children. The hard candy gets the salivary glands working so that malnourished kids can start to eat. Please drop off any candy to the school office by November 6th. Thank you!

Parents Reaching Out (PRO) Grant
The CSPC has applied for a Government PRO grant to bring in Arts Express to lead our students and parents in a workshop on building resiliency in kids. We have learned this week that the Ontario Government has cancelled the PRO grants. We are in discussions about how we might still be able to provide this important workshop to our school community.

Consultation: Education in Ontario

The Government of Ontario invites everyone - parents, students, educators and interested individuals or organizations - to provide feedback on the education system in Ontario. Their goal is to prepare Ontario students for success, improve their academic achievement and equip them with the tools needed to enter the working world. The consultations will help shape decisions on the following:

  • How to improve student performance in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM);
  • How our schools are preparing students with needed job skills;
  • What more can be done to ensure students graduate with important life skills, like financial literacy;
  • How to build an updated and age-appropriate Health and Physical Education curriculum that includes subjects like sexual health education, mental health and the legalization of cannabis;
  • What measures can be taken to improve standardized testing;
  • What steps schools should take regarding the use of technology in classrooms, such as the use of cell phones; and What elements would participants like to see included in the Ministry of Education Parents' Bill of Rights.

The Consultation closing date is December 15, 2018. For up-to-date information on all of the ways people can participate, please visit fortheparents.ca.
