Bookseller Favorites!
Your home-town booksellers have strong opinions about books they read, and Islanders have been relying on these recommendations for nearly forty-nine years. More recently, we've introduced the tradition of asking our booksellers to reveal their three favorites of the previous year. Here you'll find a diverse selection of titles - from historical fiction, to fascinating biographies, contemporary poetry, and even titles for kids and teens. Take a sneak peek here, or find them in our Staff Recommends section!
Next month we'll revert back to our normal staff recommendations section in the newsletter, where we give you our thoughts on new titles, but for now, here's a nostalgic look back at 2018.

Join us as local authors share stories about the island we call home. "Write what you know" is the conventional wisdom given to writers. Winslow Writers, a local writing group, took that advice to heart and has published an anthology, Short Stories of Bainbridge Island, edited by Kirsten Foster and published by Red Rover Books. These five stories address themes of love, loss, and redemption as reflected through the unique lens of island culture. Winslow Writers include Abigail Hamilton, Lara O'Neal, Jessica Dubey, Starre Vartan, and Ulla Solberg. |

Welcome back bookstore favorite Robert Michael Pyle. In Magdalena Mountain, Pyle's first and long-awaited novel, the award-winning naturalist proves he is as at home in an imagined landscape as he is in the natural one. At the center of this story of majesty and high mountain magic are three Magdalenas - Mary, a woman whose uncertain journey opens the book; Magdalena Mountain, shrouded in mystery and menace; and the all-black Magdalena alpine butterfly, the most elusive of several rare and beautiful species found on the mountain. |

James Forsher as he presents his new book,
Stock Footage - the only book that gives an overview of the use of archival footage and how it played an expanding and crucial role in documentary and TV films. In this informative book, readers learn how to research images and get permission for the use of these images.
Each section of the book offers interviews with experts who give a realistic idea of how they've used stock footage in their own work. Forsher has nearly forty years of experience producing, writing, and directing documentaries and television commercials. His productions, ranging from half-hour shows to feature-length documentaries, have aired on The Discovery Channel, The Movie Channel, Cinemax, A & E and PBS.
