We are just one month into 2019 and it is abundantly clear -- our work to end the man-made asbestos disaster can been seen and felt nationwide!

We have some breaking news! Although the EPA denied our Right to Know petition, 15 Attorneys General announced that they will petition the EPA under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) to require industry to file reports on the imports of asbestos and asbestos-containing products and inform the Agency of how and where they are used. ADAO applauds the actions of the Attorneys General!

Excitement is building for our 15th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference , which will take place April 5 - 7, 2019 in Washington, D.C. On February 6, we will launch the 8-week "Meet the Honorees and Speakers" blog series, a collection of entries that introduce the world to our conference's invited guests. We have an amazing lineup of speakers who will educate, inspire, and motivate you. Throughout the year, we remain committed to serving as an active stakeholder in policy discussions in Washington, D.C.  As we enter the 116th congress, we have a strong team of legislative leaders preparing to introduce the Alan Reinstein Ban Asbestos Now Act of 2019, and we feel more confident than ever in our ban asbestos actions.

As we dive into February, I encourage you to let National Cancer Prevention Month inspire you to be active in spreading awareness - it can be as easy as sharing a post online. On February 7, we'll be connecting science and policy for action at Less Cancer's National Cancer Prevention Day in Washington, D.C. Remember that cancer prevention is more than just a day or even a month; it must be our mantra always - "Hear Asbestos. Think Prevention." Prevention remains our only cure.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Christine Winter and Paul Zygielbaum. Both Christine and Paul were extremely dedicated, loyal advocates for a ban on asbestos, but more importantly, they were dear friends to the ADAO family. Paul, a Mesothelioma Warrior, and Christine, an ardent advocate, will be missed dearly, and will be in our thoughts as we fight harder now than ever to ban this lethal carcinogen.
