Lake Cornelius: A public meeting was held on January 23 to discuss the proposed recreation access on Lake Cornelius. If you haven't already participated, we encourage all Cornelius residents and business owners to participate in an online survey open through February 23.

Robbins Park: A public workshop will be held at Town Hall on Tuesday, February 19, 6:30-8:30 pm, to discuss an update of the Robbins Park Master Plan. You are invited to come to this drop-in meeting and to participate in an online survey, which will be open February 5 - March 19.

Northern Regional Recreation Center: A public meeting will be held at the Bailey Middle School cafetorium on Tuesday, February 26, 6:30-8:00 pm. Come get the latest update for this new facility, which Mecklenburg County is building in Cornelius!

GET OUTSIDE
Every Tuesday and Thursday in February, 6:00-8:00 pm, the public in invited to use the lighted track between Bailey Middle School and Bailey Road Park. Come enjoy a safe place to walk or run!

Enjoy a free, guided hike through the Robbins Park trail system, along with Cornelius PARC, Davidson Parks & Recreation and Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists. Pre-registration encouraged but walk-up registration is also welcome for this leisurely two-mile hike. Please no strollers or pets.

Hear about achievements and firsts of African-Americans right here in our community, and enjoy children's activities, performances and refreshments. This free, public event is offered in collaboration with the Smithville CommUNITY Coalition.

Spring Art Classes: Registration is now open for youth and adult six-week classes beginning the week of February 25.

NEW: Self Portraits with Graphite, register now for this one-day workshop, to be held on Saturday, February 16, 9:00 am-12:00 pm. $40 residents, $45 non-residents.

Home Grown 2014 Don't miss the gallery opening for Home Grown  on Friday, February 1, 6:30-8:30 pm. This popular, annual exhibit features an eclectic mix of work from over 90 local artists! The exhibit will be on display through March 30, with beautiful and affordable works for viewing and many for sale.

Beyond Walls Public Art Exhibition: Calling all professional artists - apply for our fifth annual sculpture show. Entries are due by Wednesday, February 6.

Child painter Join us on Mondays and Thursdays,  10:00 am  -12:00 pm, for  Drop-In Art for Preschoolers & Homeschoolers , ages 3 and up. Register online or pay at the door. $5 per hour, per child.

Register now for Parent's Night Out on Friday, February 15, 6:00-9:00 pm. Drop off your kids with us for a fun night of crafts, games and The Emoji Movie! Enjoy a night out and we will handle the rest, including a pizza dinner. $10 residents, $15 non-residents.

: Register children and adults with the Carolina Rapids until February 8.

Adult Softball : Men's "C" divisions registration opens for returning on February 11; new teams may register beginning February 25.

Baseball : Register with Lake Norman Little League through February 16 for boys ages 6-12, and through March 9 for ages 12-16 (Junior and Senior divisions).

Tee-Ball : Register with Lake Norman Little League through February 16, for boys and girls ages 4-6.

Girls' Softball : Register with Lake Norman Little League through February 16 for girls ages 7-12, and through March 9 for ages 12-16 (Junior and Senior divisions).

Lacrosse : Register with Xtreme Lacrosse for boys and girls, kindergarten through high school, now through February 15.  

Tennis : Lessons offered for children and adults year round with the Lake Norman Tennis Academy.

Pickleball Drop-In Sports
  
Pickleball : Seniors can drop in for free play on Sunday afternoons, 1:00-3:00 pm at J.V. Washam Recreation Center. For ages 50 and up.

Summer Camps 2019
We will begin registration to the public (both residents and non-residents) for over 120 Summer Sports Camps and Summer Arts & Recreation C amps starting March 1 at 7:00 am!

SDC 2018
Summer Day Camps :  For these full-day camps only, Cornelius residents will have a priority registration period of March 1-14. We have 100 spaces per week, so don't wait, camps sell out quickly! Registration will open to the general public on March 15 for any spaces remaining in our full-day camps.  

Look for camp details on our website by February 15.

NOW HIRING FOR SUMMER JOBS
Now Hiring
We are seeking energetic, conscientious people, who enjoy working with children, to help with our summer camps, which run June 10 - August 23. We are hiring camp staff and bus drivers. Bus drivers must be a current full-time or part-time CMS employee. Minimum age for all applicants is 18 years. Hours are flexible but are usually  20-40 hours per week.  Learn more here.

CORNELIUS YOUTH ORCHESTRAS
CYO is currently registering youth musicians for the Spring Semester and also introducing a new entry-level string orchestra, the CYO Prelude Strings, for students just beginning their music education journey. Students learning a string instrument are invited to play along with their peers having 1-3 years experience. The Youth Orchestra is also looking for young musicians that are eager to play music in an orchestral setting. Students with 3+ years experience playing an orchestral instrument (strings, wind, brass, or percussion) are invited to join. 

CYO programs meet weekly at the Bailey Road Recreation Center on Tuesdays evenings until May 15. Prelude Strings meet from 6:30-7:30 pm and Youth Orchestra meets from 6:30-8:30 pm. Learn more about CYO!


 CORNELIUS COMMUNITY GARDEN
Community Garden The Cornelius Community Garden, 20708 Catawba Avenue, has 4' x 8' garden boxes available for rent. The fee is $50 ($25 may be refundable) and includes the raised bed, topsoil, access to tools, water and three growing seasons. If you are interested, call Brad Daubenmire at 980-216-0121.
