Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.
COORDINATOR'S CORNER
I have recently been reminded in an up close and personal way just how important self-care is in all aspects of our lives. The end of the year and beginning of a new year can be an eventful time filled with seemingly endless festivities, perceived obligations, and way too many things to do. In such times I tend to forget that I am not the Energizer Bunny! My energy supply is definitely not unlimited, and after pushing myself too hard for too long, my battery was running dangerously low. It was time to reassess my priorities and put my own well-being back at the top of the list.

It can be challenging to put ourselves high on our priority list, as our upbringing and our cultural influences often encourage us to do otherwise. We feel like we’re being selfish. However, as has been said many times and in many ways, we cannot be of service to others unless we are respecting and taking care of ourselves. So, I am encouraging you this month to join me in practicing self-care. Consider what it means to practice self-acceptance, self-forgiveness, and self-compassion. Notice your self-talk. Can you be as thoughtful and kind to yourself as you would be to a close friend?

Make a list of what you’re doing too much of and do less; what you’re not doing enough of and do more. My list was enlightening – too much doing and not enough being, too much noise and not enough silence, too much energy going out and not enough time for renewal and rejuvenation, too much electronic input and not enough unplugged time, too much stress and not enough peace, too much busyness!

Find ways to begin to do what is best for you. It may help to start small. For me that means making sure I take some quiet time to myself each day – even putting it on my calendar! Take the radical step of making self-care a priority this month and let it become a positive habit. It’s important – the world needs us all!

Please join me and the amazing women of the Santa Fe Chapter of TTN for our inspiring programs and lively events this month. I look forward to seeing you!

JOIN A TRANSITION PEER GROUP!
KICK-OFF COMING UP IN MARCH!
Thursday • March 7 • 6:30 to 8:30 PM
34 Via Summa (off 599)

A Transition Peer Group (TPG) provides a unique setting for women navigating their individual life journey.  The meetings are designed to provide a safe space for each member to share their own experiences and perspectives. Listening becomes as important as speaking. Confidentiality and respect are key components.

After the very insightful WIT – Women In Transition workshop last February, I joined a TPG. I wanted to explore more about life after changing from the grind of a full-time career and seeking some form of retirement, but still being involved with others and what’s happening in my city. What better way than hearing the connections and wisdom’s of another bunch of accomplished women? This was especially appealing after being isolated in state government management. Meeting at each other’s homes, twice a month for a year, these has been illuminating and entertaining. We pick a topic, but each of us comes from different directions with diverse life experiences, so it’s fascinating and triggers considering new possibilities for me.  —Carol Pava

Mark your calendars for the opportunity for connection, new friendships and mutual respect and support!
