Author! Author! Presents: Sarah Vowell
After a great evening with Maria Semple, author of Where'd You Go, Bernadette, Author! Author! turns its sights to Sarah Vowell, who joins us at Bend High on Thursday, November 15, as the second author in the literary series. Whether you know her from her books about American culture and history, from her work on This American Life, as the voice of Violet in The Incredibles, or through one of her many other projects, you're sure to enjoy the evening. Tickets are available at the door and online at the Deschutes Public Library Foundation's website.
It's Voting Time ... for Pumpkins!
The entries are in, and the Second Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest is now open for public voting! We received more than 50 creative entries and can't wait for you to see them. Pumpkins are decorated as book characters, and it's clear that our community's creativity knows no bounds. See them all here and vote for your favorite. One vote per person, please! The winners will be announced on our Facebook and Instagram pages on October 31.

Ready, Get Set, Write! NaNoWriMo is Here
November can mean football, Thanksgiving and pumpkin spice everything. But it also means writing: Nearly half a million people around the world set aside time every November to write their stories as part of National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, which aims to get people of all ages to write 50,000 words by the end of the month. We're hosting weekly meetings at the East Bend Library to encourage writers to check in, cheer each other on, discuss technique and do some writing together. It all kicks off Oct. 27, and all events are free and open to people of all ages and skill levels. Find the full schedule of events here.
Book Clubs Here, Book Clubs There ... We Have Everything You Need!
From classic to contemporary, and fiction to non-fiction, we host a variety of book clubs at all six of our library locations. If you have your own book club, we can help! We offer more than 200 kits of popular books for book clubs to check out. Each kit comes in a blue tote bag and contains 12 copies of the selected book and a reader's guide to help you with topics for discussion. Each kit can be checked out for up to two months. Find more information and a full list of available books here, and learn more about library-hosted book clubs here. Happy reading!
Coming Up in November: Know Water
Water is not only all around us---more than 70% of Earth's surface is water-covered---it makes up 60% of our bodies. Learn about all things water throughout November at your library; find a full listing of free events on our website here. Don't forget---the " Know Monsters" series of programs runs through October.
