A NOTE ON THIS WEEK'S SCHOOL CLOSURES
 

 
We appreciate all that our Cove community has done to support the weather-related school closings. In order to make up for the instructional days that have been missed so far this year, we will be making the following adjustments to our existing calendar.

Cove will have school on Presidents' Day - February 18, as well as on Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22. Both March 21 and March 22 will be early dismissal days at 2:00 PM.

Parent/teacher conferences, which had been planned for March 21 and March 22 will be scheduled on an individual basis, per parent request, during the week of March 18th after school hours or at other times in which staff may be available.  More information will be forthcoming.  For more information, please contact Sally Sover at  [email protected]   or at  (847) 562-2100 .
COVE CHEERLEADERS' CARNATION SALE
Monday, February 4 to Friday, February 8


Cove's Cheerleaders will be selling $1.00 carnations all week from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM. Help support the squad by buying flowers for teachers, friends and family! DON'T FORGET TO ENCOURAGE OUR EARLY MORNING MEDITATION  


Elementary and junior high students arriving at Cove before 8:30 AM are invited to participate  in Early Morning Drop-In Meditation. This optional alternative to before-school outdoor recess is an opportunity for younger students to start their school day with a short period of calm, focus and quiet self-reflection.  For more information, please contact Regina Aniolowski at [email protected]. 
ELEMENTARY/JUNIOR HIGH SOCIAL EVENT

8TH GRADE TO HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITION NIGHT

TIME WITH TEACHER AUCTION 
Friday, February 8 to Saturday, February 23

Save the date to give your Cove student the gift of doing a special activity with a favorite teacher. All proceeds from this auction directly benefit Cove students! The auction opens Friday, February 8th at 9:00 AM and will close Saturday, February 23rd at approximately 10:00 PM.  For more information, please contact Paige Galassini  at  [email protected] .
HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL EVENT
Friday, February 8
All high school students can enjoy swimming and pizza at the Lifetime Fitness Old Orchard. Students will take a bus from school and can be picked up at 6:00 PM at Lifetime Fitness or will be back at Cove for pick up at 6:30 PM. SCIENCE FAIR AND VARIETY SHOW
Wednesday, February 13

Save the Date! The Cove Science Fair and Variety Show will take place on Wednesday, February 13. The Science Fair will be from 6:00-7:00 PM and the Variety Show will begin at 7:00 PM. Science Fair projects will be exhibited during the school day and a staff and student dress rehearsal for the Variety Show will take place at 1:30 PM.

Auditions for the Variety Show will be held on January 15.  Parents and students need to fill out the attached form and return it to Dr. Johnstone by the fifteenth.  There will also be a sign-up sheet on Dr. Johnstone's office door. STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

CLASSES IN SESSION WITH EARLY DISMISSAL
Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22 

Due to weather-related school closings, these days, originally scheduled as non-attendance days due to parent/teacher conferences, will be in session schooldays for students and staff. Please note: Both Thursday and Friday will be early dismissal days, with all students being dismissed at 2:00 PM. More information on individually requested parent/teacher conferences the week of March 18 is forthcoming. 

CAAEL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24

The High School Blue and Yellow teams and Junior High Blue, White and Yellow teams will play in the CAAEL Tournament in Arlington Heights from 9 AM to 4 PM. Save the date - more details and schedule to come. For more information, please contact Rob Wachowiak at  [email protected].

SAT, PSAT 10TH GRADE AND PSAT 8TH & 9TH GRADE
Tuesday, April 9 to Tuesday, April 23

Test administration will occur between April 9-23 at Cove. Juniors are receiving test prep lessons three times per week during Advisory in Reading, Writing and Math.  Freshmen and Sophomores will also have test prep lessons in their Advisory classes once per week.  All accommodations have been approved by College Board; For questions, contact Vivian Drexler at  [email protected] .

Parents and guardians are encouraged to sign their students up for one or more of our amazing after school activities. There are activities for all interests, including mathematics, robotics, homework help, sports, music and so much more. Please note that parents are responsible for arranging transportation home from after school programs. TWENTY-ONE SENSES SURVEY 
One of our Cove families is gearing up to start a new resource for sensory-sensitive kids. They're currently in the market research stage and have offered to donate $1 to Cove for each survey filled out by our families at TwentyOneSenses.org/Cove. SPECIAL GIFTS THEATRE PROGRAMS 

Students are invited to participate in the programs put on by Special Gifts Theatre, an education and therapeutic theatre organization with locations in Winnetka, Chicago, Palatine and Libertyville for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities ranging in age from 10 years and older.
