FEBRUARY 2019 NEWSLETTER
The first month of 2019 is already behind us and teachers are reserving a portion of each class to teach their recital dance.  Attendance is imperative.  Students missing more than 3 classes from this point on could potentially not be allowed to participate in the recital. Make-up classes are no longer allowed. Please call the studio if your child will be absent.

It's not too early to think about summer. We have just released our Summer 2019 Schedule! We have many exciting opportunities for your child this summer!

Recital Packets will be released mid March and recital information will be in each newsletter for the remainder of the dance year. Please read all recital news. An informed parent is a happy parent.
Please remember to bundle up when you are coming and going from the studio. Remind students to wash their hands frequently.

Thank you to everyone who donated winter coats for our coat drive! WE COLLECTED 74 COATS! The school was very grateful!

WINTER WEATHER
WE DO NOT FOLLOW the Frederick County Public School Inclement Weather closings. If there is inclement weather, the studio will make a decision to close by 8am for all morning classes and by 2pm for all late afternoon/evening classes.

If FCPS is on a 2 hour delay, 24/7 morning/daytime classes are cancelled.

Please check the website, your email, Facebook, and/or the studio answering machine for closing notifications. In the event the weather becomes problematic during classes, a decision will be made, and classes will be contacted accordingly.

PARKING INFORMATION
As you know, we recently changed the parking lot out front of the studio to try to make the lot much safer for our families. We are happy to offer more handicapped spaces and that we added Expectant Mother parking spaces. The Expectant Mother spaces are for mothers that are expecting OR for families with infants. We thank you all for your cooperation.
Please respect the signs.

AMBASSADOR MESSAGE
The new year is in full swing and that means its the beginning of recital season! Teachers are beginning to choreograph their dances in class, which means everyone is going to be learning new things that they’re going to need to remember for the next week’s class and the rest of the year! It always helps if dancers can practice their choreography at some point throughout the week, and it may be a good idea to decide on a time with your dancer to review before they go back to class! Its beneficial to try out different times during the week, because it may do good to review it when the dance is fresh in their head, or it might be more helpful to do it right before their class so they are super prepared for the review, or some happy medium. Reviewing before is a great way to get the most out of class time and impress the teacher with how prepared the dancers are!
Have a Great February!

COSTUME UPDATE
costumes2
Recital costumes are ordered. Some will start to arrive as early as February and some may not arrive until April. Once the costumes arrive, students will try on costumes during the last 10 minutes of class to make sure all the pieces arrived. Teachers will report major costume issues to the front desk.

Plan to help your younger student try on costumes so they do not lose any costume pieces. It is your responsibility to have costumes altered if needed. Each costume company recommends the best size based on your child's measurements. Please keep costumes hung neatly and keep all accessories with the costume. Do not allow your children to play in their costume until the recital is over.

Look for the LABEL ON THE COSTUME BAG. This will list which tights, shoes, hairstyles, and accessories are needed for their dance. These labels also will tell you when the class's scheduled picture day and time is as well as their dress rehearsal and recital days and times. PLEASE keep this information in a place that you can easily refer to.

ZUMBINI
If you’re looking for a class to do together with your child, spots are open in the Zumbini class Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. The music and movement program is for children ages 0-4 with a caregiver. This is a great option for babies and other kids who are not ready to be in a class without a parent. To register, visit https://www.frederickzumbini.com . If you’d like to check out a Zumbini class before signing up, 24/7 families are welcome to try out the first class for free. Please email info@frederickzumbini.com to schedule a trial class.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
As the recital approaches, it is important that each student makes every effort to attend class. If your child misses more than 3 classes after February 1st, they risk their participation in the recital. Each class will start working on their recital pieces in February. A portion of each class will be devoted to the recital dance and that makes your child's attendance very important . Make-up classes are no longer offered after February 1st.

Tardiness
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT EACH STUDENT ARRIVES IN CLASS ON TIME. Tardiness does not set a student up for success emotionally and physically. Make sure to allow time to get to class on time.

Reminder:
2 times late = 1 absence
2 time leaving early = 1 absence
2 times watching = 1 absence

If your young child is late, please go to the front desk and have the desk staff take them into class for minimal disruption. Make it your New Year's Resolution to be 10 minutes early for class.

If you have any questions/concerns, please contact the front desk at 301-846-4247

RECITAL NEWS
We are already very busy preparing for recital. Each family will be given a "RECITAL 2019" booklet in mid March. Your family must have someone 16 years or older sign out the booklet. These booklets contain vital information such as: photo, rehearsal, and recital dates and times, procedures, forms and other helpful information.

Some of the information is time sensitive. Please make sure you come into the studio to get your packet in mid March.

*** To keep the integrity of the shows and to keep variety, balance and appropriate leveling, some families may have children in two recitals. We do our best to keep children/siblings in only one show but this year it just is not possible. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
