Goodwill Programs Impact in 2018
A Look Back at Goodwill's Service to Individuals and the Community

In 2018, individuals had many different reasons for visiting Goodwill, but they were all motivated to make a change in their life. Goodwill provided services to more than 47,000 people who were in need of assistance to overcome obstacles to success. Some individuals needed services to help them apply for a job, while others needed additional training to advance or start on a pathway to a new career. Youth in our communities gained support to help them make better choices for their future, and other individuals who wanted to gain independence were able to learn new skills and be able to live their lives to the fullest.

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that provides vital support through guidance and fiduciary responsibilities. The board is comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds and represents the geographical regions served by the organization.

Spring Opening for New Goodwill Store in Charlottesville
Larger & More Convenient, the Location Consolidates Area Operations
Goodwill shoppers and donors in Charlottesville will soon have a new location where they can shop and donate. The new store, which will celebrate its Grand Opening on March 27th, will be located in a portion of the former Gander Mountain location on Route 29 North.

Youth in Two Communities to Benefit from Mentoring
Now Recruiting for New Programs in Roanoke and Franklin County

Positive adult role models can have a life-changing impact on youth in our community. In both Franklin County and Roanoke, Goodwill is currently working to provide mentorship opportunities for area youth. The Franklin County Youth Mentoring Program is currently recruiting mentors, and at YouthHQ @Goodwill in Roanoke, enrollment is ongoing for both youth mentees and adult mentors.
Donor Spotlight
Matt Churchill

Climbing under barbed wire, crawling through mud, climbing walls, and jumping over fire - these are a few activities most of us would rather avoid. But for Matthew Churchill, a Goodwill Board Member who has been supporting Goodwill for many years, these challenges are what make up a Spartan Race. Participating in these extremely difficult obstacle races a couple times a year, Matt is passionate about challenging himself athletically. He is also just as passionate about helping others meet their own goals and objectives.
Sparking Joy
A message from our President & CEO, Bruce Phipps

Marie Kondo seems to be the talk of the town as we kick off 2019. In case you haven't heard, Kondo is an organizing consultant and author from Japan. On January 1st, Netflix released the first season of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, in which "world-renowned tidying expert Marie Kondo helps clients clear out the clutter - and choose joy." And for Goodwill, she has definitely sparked joy.
