The late Estelle Ramey, PhD, emeritus professor of physiology and biophysics at the School of Medicine, was selected as the subject of the new portrait to be commissioned by Georgetown Women in Medicine for the Women on the Walls campaign


As the inaugural recipient of the Allan J. Goody, MD Endowed Professorship in Medical Education, Charles A. "Chip" Read, MD, FCCP (M'86, R'88, W'91), was recently recognized for his commitment to medical education and excellence as a clinician.


In addition to her roles as an ethicist and professor, Carol Taylor, PhD, RN, is the editor and main author of a textbook that has prepared students for nursing careers since its first edition was published in  1989.


At a recent Doctors Speak Out event, experts discussed recent developments in research on Huntington's disease, including new clinical trials at the Huntington's Disease Care, Education and Research Center (HDCERC).


Christopher King, PhD, FACHE, has earned Campus Compact's Mid-Atlantic Early Career Engaged Scholarship Award, which he will receive at a ceremony in November.

Dionne Smith Coker-Appiah, PhD, MAEd, NCC, an associate professor in psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center, has been selected for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Interdisciplinary Research Leaders Program, a three-year program that provides participants with annual fellowship support and research grant funds. King Receives Campus Compact Award
Christopher King, PhD, FACHE, associate professor of health systems administration at the School of Nursing & Health Studies, will be recognized by Campus Compact's Mid-Atlantic's Early Career Engaged Scholarship Award for his community-based academic work.

Georgetown University Medical Center announces a clinical trial testing the safety of the repurposed cancer drug nilotinib in Huntington's disease. This is the fourth clinical trial of the drug for a neurodegenerative disorder.

The science that earned two researchers the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for 2018 - the discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation - is at the heart of an increasing number of standard treatments and many ongoing clinical trials at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Simulations with animal models meant to mirror galactic cosmic radiation exposure to astronauts are raising red flags for investigators at Georgetown University Medical Center about the health of astronauts during long voyages, such as to Mars.

The first large U.S. study of cognition in older breast cancer patients, led by researchers from Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, indicates that within the first two years after diagnosis and treatment, most women do not experience cancer-related cognitive problems.

New research by Georgetown University Medical Center investigators indicates that a chemotherapy drug commonly used to treat breast cancer alters brain structure and function in mice that express the human APOE4 gene, which is known to significantly increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

 




Jenny England (G'18), a biochemistry and biophysics Ph.D. candidate, is first author on a new paper in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, co-authored with three other doctoral candidates, an undergraduate and chemistry professor Rodrigo Maillard.
