Quarterly e-newsletter                                  July/August/September 2020

Dear GCSB Heritage Club Members,

Hope you are enjoying your summer days, a little hot, but at least the colorful flowers, green grass and the crops are growing rapidly! Did you get the chance to celebrate the Fourth of July with family and friends? Hopefully you are enjoying your summer activities, whatever they may be during the pandemic!

Our lobbies are now open but we still recommend that you use the drive-ups, the ATMS, internet and mobile banking. Read more about the precautions we are taking in the note from Mike Underwood below.

We can still be kind to others, even if we can't see them face to face, and GCSB used our quarantine time to help our community! Read more below.

We're also excited to introduce Brella, the next evolution of SHAZAM BOLT$, an app on your smartphone to help spot fraudulent use of your debit card.

Stay safe during these crazy times and hope to see you soon.

Kim

Next Quarterly Social Event

MikenoteFrom the desk of Mike Underwood, Guthrie County State Bank, President & CEO

The last four months have been a very challenging and unique time for most of our country. I would like to provide an update on how Guthrie County State Bank has been coping with the COVID-19 situation.

We opened our lobby doors on June 15th after having them closed for nearly three months. While you are welcome to come in to utilize our services, we ask that you practice social distancing in our facilities. To assist in that endeavor, we ask that you make appointments with our relationship managers should you need a loan or with our universal bankers should you wish to open an account.

We have placed hand sanitizer dispensers at all of our entrances and ask that you use those regularly upon entering. Additionally, we have added Plexiglas shields in each of teller windows as a precaution for both you and our team members. We do not require you or our team to wear a mask but encourage you to do so if you will feel more comfortable by having it on.

The truest way to maintain social distancing is to use our other services which don't require entering our buildings - the drive up window, online and mobile banking, and telephone calls into the office are just a few examples. We continue to embrace technology as it develops and have begun to use DocuSign, which allows us to obtain your digital signature on documents from the safety and comfort of your home or office without meeting face-to-face.

Additionally, we are more than happy to conduct a video conference call through Zoom technology as another means to simulate being together without having that in-person exposure. Rest assured, we will continue to provide you the level of customer service you have come to expect from GCSB, but we want to do it in a method which is both convenient and comfortable to you in these very interesting of times for all of us.

Thanks for your continued relationship with us and I pray that each of you stays healthy!
Mike

actsActivating Acts of Kindness Throughout Our Community!

The coronavirus pandemic has left many of us feeling a bit helpless and out of control of our situations. At GCSB, we closed our lobbies and split our staff so that only half of us were in the office at a time to be able to decrease exposure and protect our employees, their families and the community. We decided this was the perfect time to ramp up acts of kindness in our community. Doing good helps you feel good and despite living through an unprecedented time, we hope our acts of kindness helped spread some smiles and good cheer to our community. Here are some of the ways we used the quarantine time to spread kindness:
  • Essential workers at our local hospital, medical clinics and local daycare providers received homemade cookies and cinnamon rolls as a "thank you" from all of us.
  • Our Celebrate May Day promotion encouraged acts of kindness by our customers for others, which counted as an entry to nominate a small business or nonprofit into our #GCSBMayDay contest. As a result, 11 local organizations received $500. Winners included Guthrie Center American Legion and Sons of the American Legion, Art on State, Crafty's Coffee & Gifts, Guthrie Center Association of Churches, Guthrie County Hospitals & Clinics, Mary J. Barnett Library, Panora Food Bank, Panora Public Library, Royal Neighbors, Panora Sons of the American Legion, Tori's Angels.
  • We provided free ice cream cones with the purchase of a meal at PJ's during the Shop Local, Eat Local, Bank Local Panora Chamber event.
  • We donated $1,000 each to summer meal programs of Guthrie Center Schools, Panorama Schools and the Adair Girls and Boys Club.
  • Five local food pantries each received 10 - $50 Iowa Beef Council beef certificates.
