'Olde Suckasunny Day' celebration is this Saturday, September 8th
The 31st annual Olde Suckasunny Day is finally here! Join us on M ain Street in Succasunna on Saturday, September 8th for a fun-filled day with the family. This decades-long old fashioned street fair hosts vendors, crafters, games, and non-profit groups. It is once again be  co-sponsored by the Roxbury Township Public Library, the First Presbyterian Church of Succasunna and the Succasunna United Methodist Church. Activities and celebrations will be happening at all three adjacent locations be sure to check it all out.  Olde Suckasunny Day events this year will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Main street closes to traffic at 9:30. Fair parking will be at Lincoln/Roosevelt and Franklin Elementary Schools. 
  • The Cemetery Tour is Back - Tickets On Sale at Suckasunny Day - The Moonlight History & Mystery Cemetery Tour at First Presbyterian Church in Succasunna was such a great hit last year that it is back by popular demand. Church members are busily planning the tour which is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28 starting at 6 p.m. and running until 8 p.m. The moon will be full so come on down to 99 Main Street and tour the cemetery at night, learn a little history, hear real church ghost stories and get in the Halloween spirit! Numbered tickets (with specific tour start times at 5-minute intervals) are being sold and will be available for sale on the church's front lawn at this Saturday's Olde Suckasunny Day street festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets cost only $5 per person in advance and $7 on the day of the event. You can also buy tickets by stopping by or calling the church's office at (973) 584-5238.   • Rail History Buffs Announce Olde Suckasunny Day Train Trips - People attending Olde Suckasunny Day on Saturday will be able to ride in a passenger train on the Chester Branch rail line, something that hasn't happened in about 80 years. The Tri-State Railway Historical Society, in partnership with the Dover & Rockaway River Railroad, will be bringing several cabooses from its collection of historic railroad equipment to offer free train rides to the public during the street fair on Saturday. The train will be hauled by Dover & Rockaway River Railroad's "Honoring New Jersey Veterans" locomotive. The patriotically decorated locomotive, a joint effort between the railroad and the Military Transport Association, will be unveiled during a noon ceremony. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., passengers can board the train at the rail crossing on Main Street, between Railroad Avenue and Eyland Place. A free shuttle will be available at the corner of Main Street and Hunter Avenue to bring riders on the short drive to the train. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.
Roxbury Schools Invites You to the inaugural FitnessRox Family Fun Run
The Roxbury Township Public Schools will be holding its inaugural FitnessRox Family Fun Run on Tuesday, October 16th at Lincoln/Roosevelt School at 34 North Hillside Avenue in Succasunna, NJ. Registration and check-in opens at 4:00 p.m. at Lincoln/Roosevelt School and the run will begin at 5:00 p.m. The event is open to everyone! 

The course will kick off at Lincoln/Roosevelt School to celebrate Lincoln School's 100th birthday! The course will include various fitness stations between Franklin and Lincoln/Roosevelt Schools including Meeker Street. Participants can park at either Franklin Elementary School at 8 Meeker Street in Succasunna or in the Lincoln/Roosevelt School parking lots. 

The tax-deductible registration fees are $20 per individual participants and $50 for registering your immediate family (up to seven people). To register for this event, go to  www.roxbury.org/FitnessRox. The first 500 registrations before October 5th will receive a free reusable water bottle and FitnessRox t-shirt. 

The funds raised from this fun, family event will help Roxbury Schools continue its goal of providing health and wellness for its staff and students. In particularly this year at Lincoln/Roosevelt School, the funds will go to help equip the new Wellness Room with yoga mats, resistance bands, etc. to promote lifelong fitness, mindfulness, and wellness. 

Roxbury Township Public Schools are preparing the children of today for tomorrow by helping them to grow strong in minds and bodies. As a Bronze certificated Sustainable Jersey for School district, it is our goal to increase awareness and participation in health and wellness programs that not only benefit our students and staff but our community as a whole. Roxbury Boys Soccer Starts Season on Right Foot
The Roxbury High School boys soccer team got a good start to the season Wednesday with a win over Montville.  Playing at home on a hot afternoon, the Gaels defeated the Mustangs 1-0.  The Gaels next play Friday, against West Morris Central, at the Mount Olive Middle School. Roxbury Collects  Box Tops for Education
Roxbury Township Public Schools are continuously collecting "Box Tops for Education" at our K-8 schools.  This is an easy, practically effortless way to raise funds for our schools by purchasing items you buy all the time.  Clipped box tops can be sent to any of our K-8 schools district-wide. School addresses can be found on our website at www.roxbury.org .

Here we will feature events of organizations, clubs, and teams throughout our communities that serve to enrich the lives of our students.  Announcements, upcoming events, documents and forms that were previously sent home via backpacks will now be included in the Virtual Backpack. (On occasion, some paper forms, and flyers and other important information, will come home with your student or be sent to you directly via email.)  This page is updated as flyers are received. Roxbury Alumni In the News

Roxbury Alumni Association -- Get Involved!
The Roxbury Alumni Association was established in the early 1900s and formally incorporated in 1968. Every year the Alumni Association provides a scholarship to a graduating senior. The association also purchases a Echo yearbook and donates it to the Roxbury Township Library for its archive.  Membership is only $10 and with your gift, you directly support the ability for the Alumni Association to continue giving a RHS grad a scholarship. You are also supporting the association as it develops new programs and events for you to enjoy.  Looking to get involved? The Roxbury Alumni Association is looking to expand its current board of directors. They are looking for energetic alumni interested in getting involved with the Association and to add new members to its board. Interested individuals should reach out to Mr. Charlie Alpaugh the president of the association at 973-584-8805.

The Roxbury Community School is dedicated to helping students prepare for college through a few different avenues.


The Roxbury Community School has also partnered with Catalyst Prep, Kaplan SAT/ACT Prep and Lentz & Lentz SAT/ACT Prep to empower students to excel on standardized tests like the SAT's and ACT's.

New this year, the Community School has also teamed up with CATES Tutoring and Education Services and My 3 Sons Family Tutoring for ACT and SAT Preparation. Registrations are now being accepted for fall programs!

At the Roxbury Community School we understand adults of all ages are busy with kids, work, and life in general. Sometimes though you need to just do something for yourself.  That's where we come in! We offer evening and weekend programs and workshops geared towards adults that help to enrich your mind and body.  Join us for these fun-filled and informative programs! These programs are all open to Roxbury and non-Roxbury residents!

Roxbury Community School - Radio City Bus Trip to NYC
Every year the Community School takes a bus into New York City to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.  There is no better way to ring in the holiday spirit than a visit to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular while leaving the driving into Manhattan to someone else. Enjoy prime seating and have a chance to take a picture with Santa!

Departure from Roxbury High School Parking Lot: 12:30 p.m.

Roxbury Community School - Ski Club 2018/2019
The purpose of the Roxbury Community School's Ski and Snowboard Club is to provide students the opportunity to ski and/or snowboard at local mountain resorts. Students will be provided with transportation to and from the mountains. Students will be required to attend meetings, return all necessary forms, and pay a fee for transportation/chaperones. Ski packages will be purchased directly from the mountain. Students in grades 5-12 are welcome to join. Family Ski at Shawnee is also available.

Roxbury's Adopt-a-Road and Adopt-a-Spot programs are looking for individuals, school groups, churches, or businesses willing to donate some time to continue to keep this township trash and litter free.

Roxbury Officials Urge Everybody to Create 'Smart 911' Profile
All Roxbury residents are being asked to sign-in to a new "smart" 911 database, especially those who rely solely on cell phones and do not have "copper-wire" home phones.  The new system, unveiled in May by Morris County, allows emergency first-responders to associate addresses with cell phone numbers. It also allows people to create profiles that can include important details such as medical requirements, the presence of pets and special access codes for gates and security systems, said Roxbury Department of Public Works Director Rick Blood. Buy-A-Brick Campaign to Help Improve Main Street
Roxbury Township's Main Street Committee invites you to help support their fundraising efforts to continue the beautification of Main St. in Succasunna. Memorial/honorary engraved bricks are still available for sale. The bricks are installed in the courtyard surrounding the Victorian Clock by the Gazebo at the Library.  Remember a loved one. Honor your family's name on historic Main Street. Join a Walk to Help Raise Critically Needed Awareness and Funds for Alzheimer's
Residents of Morris and Essex counties will have an opportunity to join the fight to end Alzheimer's disease by participating in upcoming Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's events in Succasunna on September 9.

"Every step forward strengthens the Alzheimer's Association vision of a world without Alzheimer's," said Cheryl Ricci-Francione, executive director of Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey. "Every stride forward brings us closer to achieving that goal. Together, we can raise awareness and funds to enhance Alzheimer's care and support, and advance critical research."

The first walk will take place at Horseshoe Lake Park, 72 Eyland Avenue in Succasunna on Sept. 9, where Morris County Freeholder Kathryn DeFillippo and Roxbury Deputy Mayor Bob DeFillippo will speak at the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon at the start of the walk.

Participants will be invited to complete up to a two-mile walk and learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer's Association. Walk participants will also honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony. The 6th Annual Roxbury Community Yard & Craft Sale - September 22nd
The 6th Annual Roxbury Community Yard & Craft Sale at Horseshoe Lake will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018. This rain or shine event will run from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m. and provide one-stop shopping right at the Horseshoe Lake pavilion area (far left rear of the park). FEATURES:  Antiques, Crafts, Garage Sale Items, Home Goods, Food Trucks. Restrooms on site and convenient parking. SELLERS WANTED! Do you have something or somethings to sell? Vendors & Crafters Sought for Roxbury's Home for the Holidays Street Festival
It's never too hot and humid to think "holidays."  Vendor/crafter registration is now open for Roxbury's 4th Annual Home for the Holidays street festival scheduled for Saturday, December 1st.  Go to  www.roxburynj.us/holidays  to get registration form. 

Vendors are encouraged to register early - see registration form for early-bird discounts. New this year: A contest for the most festive holiday-decorated/themed vendor booth. The winner gets a free booth at next year's event.  This family-friendly holiday street fair will run from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. along Main Street in Succasunna by the Roxbury Public Library and churches.  Stockton Carriage Tours will be back offering free carriage rides with jingle-belled horses - sponsored by the Roxbury Area Chamber of Commerce and the Roxbury Rotary Club. Mount Arlington Recreation
Mt Arlington Rec is a group of volunteers appointed by the Mayor with the goal to coordinate and administer the recreation needs of the Borough. They work together with community volunteers to offer quality recreational programs for the entire family.
