Hello Parents!
Congrats on getting through the busy first week of school!! We want to thank all of you who have been gracious with your time to support the PTA in our various back to school initiatives so we can hit the ground running. Our PTA membership drive has already been a huge success and we encourage all of you to please join the PTA as well as download the membership toolkit app so you have access to our directory and other important resources.
If you haven't had a chance to check out the PTA website -
RIVPTA.org
- please do as we have updated it with all pertinent information and will continue to do so throughout the year. Please note that our Fall Afters program registration will be closing on Monday, September 10th at 5pm so please sign-up for programs by then.
As many of you know, Safety is one of Riverside School's foremost priorities so we want to encourage everyone to continue to follow the rules of the road especially during drop-off and pick-up. Our Safety Duty volunteers have been incredibly helpful and we thank all of you for helping keep our kids safe.
Lastly, it's time to dust off your cowboy hats and put on your dancing' boots for our "Riverside Round Up" Fall Fundraiser on October 20th at Arch Street. Tickets go on sale today so please read the information below to purchase tickets and volunteer to help.
We hope all of you enjoy your long weekends (no school Monday!) and happy holiday to those celebrating.

RAIN GARDEN AT RIVERSIDE SCHOOL
Over the summer, volunteers from Aquarion Water Company, members of Greenwich's Town Conservation Commission, and our Parks and Recreation Department worked with PTA volunteers to create a small garden behind the school filled with beautiful native, flowering plants. Garden design was by Rocco V. D'Andrea, Inc. Aquarion generously contributed the plants, sourced from Troy's nursery. Compost and tools were provided by Parks and Rec. The garden can be found directly behind the school, to the left of the rear parking lot as you're facing the building. Stop by to see it!
What is a rain garden?
Rain gardens are planted in depressions in the ground. They collect rainwater so it infiltrates into the ground rather than running off into storm drains or flooding the surrounding area. Rain garden plants provide bio-filtration. (They clean the water before it enters the soil). As they grow, the native plants in our rain garden will provide habitat for local pollinators and birds. So many functions for such a small place!

SCHOOL DISMISSAL MANAGER (SDM) - ACTION REQUIRED
Please
login for School Dismissal Manager to manage your child(ren)'s attendance and dismissal information by clicking
here
. All parents must login - new or returning to update the dismissal information for your children for this school year.
- New parents were issued a username and temporary password and need to use this to create a login. If you have misplaced the email with the username and temporary password that was sent to you, please contact the front office to get a new one set up.
- Returning parents can use their existing parent login credentials and update dismissal information.
- This system will be used in an Emergency Early Release to capture dismissal information for every student, so it's important that all Families create a login now.
- A default dismissal of "Parent Pick-Up" has been assigned to your child. Please contact Gina Marino to change this default to another option.
- Advance notice is appreciated when creating an exception/ change to your child's default dismissal plans. The cut-off time is 2:25pm on regular days and 12:25pm on early release days. After this time, you will need to call the school office to make any changes for the current day.
For more specific details, please reference the communication from Riverside School on August 28th. Also, there is a School Dismissal Manager (SDM) App available so you can make updates on the go!

IMPORTANT SAFETY PROCEDURES FOR DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
Morning Drop-Off:
- For drivers using the front driveway - please pull as far forward as possible and follow instructions from the volunteers on duty.
- Please stay in your car in the front driveway, do not back up, no lingering or texting, and no parking.
- Children should exit on the curb side (no left lane exit please).
- If you need to get out of the car or your child needs extra help with something, please find a legal parking spot in the parking lot or along the roads near the school.
Afternoon Pick-Up:
- Front Driveway pick up is for grades 3-5 only.
- Parents of children in grades K-2 are required to park elsewhere and meet their child at their dismissal door.
- For those using the front driveway, please stay in the car and no left lane pickup please.
- For those parents who are parking - it's essential that you find a legal spot in either the parking lot or the roads around the school to park.
- This is for the safety of the children and the street rules of the neighborhood.
- Please allow extra time to find a spot and walk if needed.
