7 Soul Shoppe Workshop: "Check In"
13 Picture Day
Principal's Message

Murwood Families,

Thank you, Murwood PTA, for sponsoring another year of Soul Shoppe. Our first lesson is this Friday.  For those of you new to Murwood, Soul Shoppe is our social emotional wellness program.  All of our workshops aim to develop students' core competencies of social emotional learning. In "Check In," we'll work on developing emotional self-awareness (ability to recognize and understand their own feelings and personal identity) and self-management skills (ability to regulate and monitor behaviors, feelings and impulses in order to get needs met and make responsible decisions).    Click the link to read the parent letter to help you have a discussion with your child, using the all important language of Soul Shoppe, such as "checking in," and "leaking your balloon."

In keeping with my request at Back To School Night, I ask that you take a moment to commit to two things:  have your child's belongings ready to go the night before and leave your house five minutes earlier so you are on time.  We have a whopping 73 tardies in the first 9 days of school!  In order for all students to get the benefit of full instruction, they need to be here in school on time for the full day every day.

If your child is a 4th or 5th grade student, they have learned about joining elementary band. Hope to see you there!

After School Enrichment

ASE is back this Fall with some exciting new classes and many of our familiar favorites!  We have a diverse selection of classes that should appeal to everyone, including Sprouts Cooking, Standing Ovations, Critters N' Clay, Code FU, STEM Fundamentals with LEGOS, Toyology, Chorus, Chess, Gymnastics, Hip Hop, and Public Speaking, just to name a few! We also have a great option to get some Before School Enrichment on our late start Wednesdays.  Your child can learn Spanish, or have fun with our Inventing and Improvising class from 7:50-8:50am.

To streamline our booking, we are excited to announce that we have adopted a new system called Homeroom that will allow us to sign up and track enrichment classes all in one place. Click here to check out our complete list of courses, schedule and go directly to our ASE Registration:

Thank you to this year's ASE cooridinators, Gillian Vivaston and Jamielle Kim for taking on this all important job!  Please email them at  [email protected]  if you have any questions.

Please remember that ALL ASE courses need a waiver.  The waiver can be  downloaded here .

Registration closes on September 12th, so register now!!
Amazon Smile

Amazon will donate a portion of your Amazon purchases to our school.  The website is  smile.amazon.com (not  amazon.com).  Find "Murwood Elementary PTA" under the charitable organizations page.  If you buy items anyway from Amazon, this is an easy thing to do for the school!  PTA will use the money for our fun activities throughout the year.
Walking Club Volunteers Needed

Walking Club, our students most beloved recess activity, is looking for volunteers to mark cards as the students walk laps around the track. The students can earn rewards as they meet some milestones.   This program started 12 years ago and it is one of the children's favorite programs here at Murwood.  It's a fun hour or so of your time  (roughly 11:40am-12:45pm) and your help is very much appreciated! Please contact Heather Sosa at  [email protected]  if you can help out!
Boxtops for Education

Hello Murwood families!  Time to bring in those Box Tops from General Mills packaging: items such as cereal, granola bars, trash bags, and many others.  Cut/tear the Box Tops out of the packaging, put them into a baggie/envelope, and bring them to the PTA area of the main office.  PTA will send them off in exchange for $, which can help pay for our fun events we have throughout the year.

WCEF AT BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
We hope everyone enjoyed Back to School Night and had a little time to explore their school sites. Those of you that couldn't attend or missed the WCEF video about what we fund for your child at your school, click here:

At Back to School Night, how many orange WCEF circles did you find? We placed 50+ circles to represent how your support of WCEF funds critical programs like Art, Music, Science, P.E., libraries, AP and Honors classes, the Wellness Center, and much more at eight schools. Remember, your donations today ensure our children will grow to become engaged and inspiring leaders of tomorrow. Donate at  www.wcefk12.org .

EXTREME PIZZA 15% TO WCEF UNTIL SEPTEMBER 30
Extreme Pizza is back again this year with an offer you should not refuse. Mention WCEF and 15% is donated back to WCEF. That's more $$ to help pay for teacher and specialist salaries as well as academic and wellness programs from TK-12. Last year you helped raise more than $2,200 for WCEF - let's hit $3,000 in 18-19!
