Dear Friend,

We hope you will join us on Friday, July 17 at 7pm , when we have the great pleasure of presenting a virtual, Zoom reading of the ten winning plays from our third annual Young Playwrights 10-Minute Play Contest (YPC) . The contest was open to Palm Beach County students in grades 9-12, and the winners were chosen by a group of theatre professionals.

We were fortunate to have had the opportunity to showcase the plays at the theatre on March 4, shortly before we closed down. It’s a very special evening, as it gives teens the opportunity to write about subjects that are important to them and demonstrates how theatre can be a powerful means of expression in their lives. We’re delighted to have the chance to share this joyous event once more. As always, the plays will be read by professional actors.

Tickets are free, but reservations are required. The reading will be recorded and available on YouTube through Monday, July 20. We want to send a big thank you to our YPC sponsor, The Eric Friedheim Foundation. And we want to acknowledge the original sponsors of YPC, Macy’s and Kids’ Dreams.

We’re also pleased to announce that on Wednesday, July 29 at 7pm , we will be offering a virtual reunion concert and cast party by the company of Edges , the show that inaugurated theAcademy@pbd last summer. We’ll have more on this next week, but you can begin reserving your free tickets today. We’re grateful to the Sean Boneri Creative Fellowship for sponsoring Edges .

Finally, a reminder that our virtual readings of new plays will resume on Monday, July 20 at 7pm with Good Americans by Bruce Graham. Four Hollywood pros clash about the blacklist as they try to greenlight a movie that questions the heroism of General Custer. When a woman from the House Un-American Activities Committee arrives with an incriminating file, they are forced to reexamine their attitudes, their convictions, and their relationships to each other. Jason Parrish, from Florida Repertory Theatre, directs.

You’ve got just one chance to see Good Americans and each of our upcoming Monday night readings, as the plays will not be recorded for later viewing . Once again, tickets are free, but reservations are required. Mark and Diane Perlberg are the underwriters for the entire series, and we can’t thank them enough.

You can make your reservations for all of these events at www.palmbeachdramaworks.org or by calling the box office at 561.514.4042, x2.

Stay safe.
