HYDE PARK, NY -- The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
(Mahwenawasigh Chapter) will commemorate Constitution Day with a film screening of
A MORE PERFECT UNION on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. The program will be held in the Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home.
This is a free public event but registration is required.
Synopsis:
America, 1786. Ten years have passed since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. But America's hopes for a united country are dangerously threatened. England wages a new war of unfair trade and tariffs. Fragmented states continually bicker over currencies, trade, taxations. America is a powder keg ready to explode.
But a handful of brilliant courageous men,
James Madison, George Washington, and
Benjamin Franklin, lead a three year diplomatic battle that culminates in Philadelphia. There they created a new form of government . . . one that has since become the standard of freedom and democracy for the rest of the world.
A MORE PERFECT UNION -- the first comprehensive film enactment of the birth of the Constitution -- was shot on location at Independence Hall and other historic locations in Virginia. It features a distinguished staff and has been carefully crafted by a seasoned cast of motion picture professionals.
The United States Constitution (completed and ratified) launched the United States on its voyage. For two centuries this unparalleled ship of democracy has sailed forth as an enduring vessel of freedom charting a course for the governments of every free nation in the world.

The Mahwenawasigh Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, was founded in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1894, by 13 dynamic women dedicated to the mission of the Daughters of the American Revolution: historic preservation, education, and patriotism. For well over a century, chapter members have gathered to support each other in our mutual love for our nation and its history. As a community service organization, the chapter manages projects ranging from conservation to service for veterans, and literacy to American handicraft. Visit
