An Update from the President & CEO
Good day everyone,

We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.

The Historical Society of Martin County, Elliott Museum, and House of Refuge are so close, but have the power to transport you so far away. In just a few short minutes, you can be on Hutchinson Island and the drive itself is a beautiful thing. Crossing the Evans Crary Bridge to Sewall’s Point brings you down a couple of notches, and crossing the Ernie Lyons Bridge to Hutchingson Island will ground you to the earth where you belong.

We would like to cordially invite you to escape the relentless assault to your senses that we have all been hardening ourselves to, and enjoy a few hours of quiet (as well as safe) and intriguing stimulation. Despite our almost certain guarantee to lower stress and reduce anxiety, most health insurance plans do not recognize the HSMC as a qualified health care provider. But our admission prices are considerably lower than your co-pays, and you will feel good long after you depart our museums.

The hardest prison to escape is in your mind.

If you think the first half of 2020 has not worn you down a bit, you might be slightly out of touch. We offer a non-pharmaceutical approach to mental health, and these are the only couches involved in our therapeutic sessions. It seems reasonable to assume that none of us has been able to isolate our minds from the negative energy generated by this pandemic. The HSMC wants to be a part of the solution. Every Monday in August, we will be offering "Mental Health Mondays" at our museums and we will waive admission for everyone visiting the Elliott Museum and the House of Refuge. We will still practice a limited capacity in our buildings and adhere to all of the recommended guidelines to ensure your safety. We hope you will take us up on our invitation to join us to see what’s new and different.

You push the button, we do the rest. – George Eastman

During the past few months, the friendly banter of these weekly newsletters has been medicinal for me, and I hope they have provided some measure of diversion for you. Each week, I look forward to the insightful reader responses that so many people have taken the time to share with me. It encourages me that we have established a certain level of trust. I further hope you believe me when I tell you that it was one of our readers who suggested that we include a link in our newsletter to allow readers to easily contribute to our enduring cause. You will find the said button just below, and I say with conviction that I hope you wear it out.

Be upbeat and thoughtful,
Rob Steele

Join Deena Rahill, founder of HI Mindfulness Forums, for her weekly Virtual Crystal Bowl Vibrational Healing from the Elliott Museum’s Theater.

Experience an hour of the pure bliss of sound vibration. Research has shown that a clear intention (which is an art of a focused and coherent mind), coupled with an elevated emotion such as joy, gratitude, freedom, and compassion (which is a function of the heart), changes your state of being.

Make time for yourself to get beyond your body and disconnect from your environment. Allow yourself to transcend to the world of sound and vibration.

To participate, go to her Facebook page at  https://www.facebook.com/deena.rahill If you've never participated, we encourage you to try it!

You also can tune into Deena's new YouTube channel, which features past sessions including this  one . Please  LIKE SUBSCRIBE  and  COMMENT ! Thank you in advance! If you wish to connect with Deena, text or call her at 786-488-7782.
