FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE
Happy Holidays!

This is definitely the time of year to reflect, to be grateful, to cherish the singular traditions that make your family’s celebrations unique and special. (Our family celebrates Christmas this time of year. When our children were small, we had a Christmas Eve birthday party for Jesus. The kids got to decorate the cake, but they were not great on planning for room on the cake top for the entire written dedication… thus the “Happy B-day Baby J!” cake that is part of our annual holiday eve dinner was born.)

Over the years, our family has expanded and now embraces beloved with different faith practices. We’ve been improved by new relatives who are Jewish, who are Buddhist, who have no particular spiritual bent, but who patiently and lovingly step into our traditions – including sushi at Christmas dinner. (Long story… power outage… searching for open restaurants… you likely have similar goofiness in your own history!)

LCHS is a school that is steeped in traditions. I cannot go out in the community with my ID badge on and NOT run into someone who shares a story of their grandfather, their aunt, themselves, and their experiences with the Tigers.

I so love hearing the stories…

“Our science classes used to go up to the roof at night with telescopes and watch meteor showers then go down to the kitchen and have hot chocolate.”

“My dad swam for LC. I have pictures of him and the team poolside at school.”

“My mom was there when there used to be two graduations each year – one in winter and one in spring.”

I am grateful for the structure that these traditions give our culture here. They are a framework for all of our new efforts. With each new initiative, we sincerely think about honoring the legacy of excellence that has been created here by our families and our community.

We know that we need to serve differently now. We have students to reach who need different strategies, we have curriculums to teach that need different methodology, and we have relationships to build that need different foundations.

But we all – teachers, staff, administrators – always reference the impact that this school has had on Spokane throughout the years and are committed to continuing to create a school that will positively impact your students in the future.

Happy Holidays!!

Principal

COLLEGE & CAREER
SchooLinks: We are transitioning to a new college application tracking system called SchooLinks. Students can access their account at www.lctigers.com - look for the link on the right.
FAFSA: October 1 marks an important day as it is when the 2018-19 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened. It is highly recommended that all LC Seniors file the FAFSA. It is the first step in getting financial aid -- including grants, scholarships, work study, and loans - from any college, technical school, or career training program. Go to to www.fafsa.gov for more information.

FSA ID: In order to file the FAFSA, both the parent and student must first create FSA IDs. We strongly encourage you to create your FSA ID now at fsaid.ed.gov because it takes approximately 1-3 days for the FSA ID to be verified and ready to be used. See the FAFSA FAQ document attached for more information. This is an important first step to apply for the FAFSA.

Morning Drop Off / After School Pickup: Before and after school, 4th Avenue in front of LC is a busy place with school buses and parents competing for limited space.
