November & December Updates
---
What's New with Missoula Public Art?

This winter, the Public Art Committee has been busy with quite a few projects. The Montana Rail Link (MRL) Percent for Art Project has been high up on the Committee's agenda over the past few months. Finalists were first narrowed down by a selection committee in October. On Tuesday, November 13th, four potential finalists for the Montana Rail Link project were interviewed by the MRL selection committee in order to ultimately select one artist. The Committee was very impressed by all of the submissions which made choosing a final artist to commission very challenging. After additional deliberation, the MRL Selection Committee selected a final artist and piece to commission. The details of this public sculpture are still being worked out between the Artist, Public Art Committee, Missoula Redevelopment Agency and Missoula Parks and Recreation. Keep your eyes peeled for updates very soon! A brand new, beautiful public art piece is expected in Montana Rail Link Park by summer of 2019.

Meanwhile, the Public Art Committee has been hard at work reviewing submissions for our Fall 2018 University of Montana Pilot Program. UofM School of Art students submitted work to the Public Art Committee that were then reviewed. Fourteen selected student artists are displaying work in Missoula City Hall and City Council Chambers; both public buildings. This collaboration has been quite fruitful for both the Committee and the UofM School of Art. The Committee looks forward to the progression of this partnership. Student work was installed in the second week of December and will be on the walls in City Hall & Council Chambers through Spring 2019. Please stop by and take a look! Thanks for reading. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please email Public Art Coordinator, Becca at becca(at)artsmissoula.org. [Image above from April 2018, UofM Pilot Opening, City Hall]
