Sullivan Scoop

December 21, 2018
Hello, Sullivan Families,

It is hard to believe this is the last newsletter of 2018! As I walk through classrooms and talk to students, it is clear just how much they have grown as learners through this first part of the year. In a 5th grade classroom today, the students were excited to share their novel study projects with me. I enjoyed listening to the students explain their projects and was struck by their creativity. I am grateful to be a part of the wonderful learning community we have built at Sullivan. I am proud of our students and staff for their hard work and perseverance!

Our Sullivan Ambassadors are busy planning our January fundraiser. We are looking forward to hosting a Dance A Thon at Sullivan on Wednesday January 23rd, so please mark your calendars! We will be raising money for our yearly summer camp scholarship for D23 students, as well as to help build a vocational training center in Haiti. Donation envelopes will be sent home on January 8th, or you can donate online using our website! See the flier below for more information about signing up for this fun evening event.

I wish your family the happiest of holidays. Have a relaxing winter break, and we will see you in January!

Warmly,

Traci Meziere

Sullivan Snapshots
First Lego League

Ms. Funk led our First Lego League teams, the UFOs and the Moonwalkers, in their competition last Saturday at Lincoln Middle School.

Our teams performed well at the competition. The Moonwalkers had a second place run on the board for robotic coding, and the UFOs received a Judges' Trophy! We are proud of our students.
Holiday Concerts

Our Band, Chorus, and Orchestra students put on wonderful performances at their winter concerts over the past few weeks.

Thank you to Mr. Boyer, Mrs. Gember, and Mrs. Luehr for working with our students to bring beautiful music to Sullivan!
4th Grade Holidays Around the World

This week, 4th grade students learned about different holiday traditions around the world and made crafts that represent each holiday.

Our friends from Aspire Assisted Living joined Mrs. MacTavish's and Mrs. Ubert's classes on Wednesday and enjoyed learning along with our students.
5th Grade Literacy

Our 5th grade students have been working on their novel studies and learning about figurative language in literacy class.

Our hallways are adorned with their creative culminating projects!
Rock Stars of the Week
Each week, two Sullivan students are recognized as the Rock Stars of the Week. These students go above and beyond in demonstrating our school-wide expectations of safe, respectful, and responsible behavior.
Joanna has a positive attitude, participates daily, and is always respectful. She tries her best every single day!
Alyssa comes to school each day with a positive attitude and a smile. She always ready to work and gives 100%.
Alex is always respectful to others and takes responsibility for his learning.
Peter works hard, has made wonderful progress on the 40 Book Challenge, and is a great helping hand.
