DRAGON TALES
11/7/19

Dear St. George Families,

I was at the SGS football games last Sunday.  Our teams were playing their last home game of the year.  We had many students and parents who joined our cheerleaders to cheer on the players, and they did so with great enthusiasm.  A number of St. George alumni were on hand to support the teams as well. Boosted by their support, our athletes played very competitively.  In victory, our students and parents stayed and continued to cheer. When the games were over, our students and parents clapped and shouted words of encouragement.

On my ride home that night, I thought about those students and parents, loyal to the end, who cheered with great gusto for their school's football teams, not because we were winning but because those players were their children, friends and classmates, and that's what we do here at St. George School.  That's the SGS I'm proud of.

And then I began to think of other things.  I thought of a young man who graduated from last year's class, for whom school was difficult.  He was met with generous, patient teachers who helped him get through middle school. And as he walked toward the altar last May to receive his diploma and pose for a picture with me, I whispered to him "We are SO proud of you," and he whispered back, saying, "Thank you for all that St. George has done for me."  That's the SGS I'm proud of.

I'm thinking of a family whose children are true scholars, honor students all, but carry themselves with great humility and concern for others.  That's the SGS I am proud of.

I am thinking of students who are curious, smart, playful, competitive, ambitious, committed to serving others, and committed to their faith.  That's the St. George School I am proud of.

I hope you're proud, too.

God bless,
Jack Nelson

Grandparent's Day Updates
Please note a change has been made to the parking location for shuttle service on Grandparent's Day. Instead of parking in the Sam's Club parking lot, grandparents and special friends should park in front of the now-closed El Zappato Mexican Restaurant parking lot. This parking lot is located across the street from the Sam's Club parking lot. Please relay this message to grandparents or special friends planning to attend Grandparent's Day this Friday.
Additionally, we still have a need for volunteers to assist at Grandparent's Day and our Baker's Committee is in need of a few things as well. Please click the signups below if you are able to help. Thank you for your support! It's going to be a wonderful Grandparent's Day!

CATHOLICISM: THE PIVOTAL PLAYERS : The Adult Faith Formation ministry will offer Bishop Robert Barron's last two Pivotal Players: Flannery O'Connor and Bishop Fulton Sheen. We will begin learning about Flannery O'Connor, whose influence on contemporary culture, particularly literature and film is profound. Her startling prose awakens us to sin and, consequently, to the need for salvation. Please come and join us as we delve deeper into O'Connor and how she radically changes our idea of what religious fiction can be. We meet in the Parish Office on Sunday, November 17th and December 8th at 9:30 a.m. For more information contact Karen Fawley at (225) 293-2212 or [email protected].
