Buffet dinner at 6:00pm
Panel discussion at 7:30pm

Pennsylvania's governmental immunity statutes (Tort Claims and Sovereign Immunity Acts) protect municipalities from liability claims of willful misconduct. However, liability insurance is not as clear-cut when municipalities and other organizations hold special events on privately-owned land. Join us for a panel discussion as Bill Hardam, hiking chair, Wilmington Trail Club, presents a case study of liability issues that emerged prior to the traditional Brandywine Trail End-to-End Hike in 2018. Bill Burke, attorney with Unruh, Turner, Burke & Frees, will discuss Pennsylvania's Recreational Use of Land and Water Act (RULWA) and statutory protection for landowners who open their land to the public for recreation. Michael Ricca, vice President of marketing at Philadelphia Insurance Companies, will offer insight into what provisions should be included in the event organizer's insurance policy to adequately address landowner concerns. The event will be held at the Downingtown Country Club, 85 Country Club Dr, Downingtown, PA 193335.
