Permit Free Garage Sale Weekend - To help residents get rid of gently used items and make a little extra money at the same time, the City of Westland is offering a permit free garage sale weekend on Friday, September 7 through Sunday, September 9. Register your sale or search for garage sales in the area by visiting http://www.cityofwestland.com/live/city-wide-garage-sale-registration

Shred Day - Community Financial Credit Union is offering a free shred day on Saturday, September 8 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Bring your confidential documents to be disposed of securely for free.  The Westland branch is located at 7420 N. Wayne Rd.  

Customer Appreciation Free Weekend at H20 Zone - The Westland H20 Zone Splash Pad is officially closed for the summer season, but there is one more chance to bring the kids to cool off this weekend.  As a thank you to the many H20 Zone customers, the H20 Zone will be open and FREE to the public on Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.


Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Civil Service Meeting
  • The regular meeting of the Westland City Council will take place on Monday, September 10 at 4:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
Friends of the Library
  • The Friends of the Library will meet on Tuesday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway.  
Library Board
  • There will be a meeting of the Library Board on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway.
Re-imagining Ford Road Visioning Sessions -  Westland's Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is working on a master plan for the former City Hall site and the entire Ford Rd. corridor that will provide the framework for future development opportunities. Residents and business owners are invited to attend sessions to share their input.  All events will be held at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.

Noon - 1 p.m.
Topic: Ford Road Corridor Bus Tour: Participants will learn to identify and quantify what they like abut Ford Road's buildings, streets, and public spaces and visit former City Hall site.

Thursday, September 13
Noon - 1 p.m.
Topic: Learn about planning walkable communities and share vision  for the Ford Road corridor over the next 20 years through a series of activities.
5 p.m. - 8 p.m. 
Topic: Put on your virtual hard hat and participate in a simulation exercise of the redevelopment of the former City Hall site.  

Friday, September 14
Noon - 1 p.m.
Topic: Learn about mobility, transportation and non-motorized best practices and share your vision  for the Ford Road corridor over the next 20 years.
11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Topic: Stop by the studio and watch the planning and design team in action

Saturday, September 14
Noon - 1 p.m.
Topic: Revealing the ideas generated throughout the workshops. The basis for the Reimagined Ford Road Master Plan will be unveiled.

All American Farmers & Artisans Market - The Westland Farmer's Market will be open on Thursday, September 13 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Farmers Market Pavilion located at 1901 N Carlson.  The Market will be open every Thursday through October. Fall Fitness Festival - In honor of Westland's Healthy City Initiative, the city and Beaumont Hospital will host their first annual Fall Fitness Festival on Saturday, September 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Join us to learn about health and fitness opportunities in Westland.  The festival will take place at Tattan Park in the Lions Club Pavilion, located at 1901 N. Carlson St.  There will be free healthy lifestyle demonstrations, fun workouts, wellness presentations, giveaways and more.
