I hope that summer finds you well and you are healthy and safe wherever you are. As we get closer to the start of the 2020-21 academic year, all of us are excited to bring our returning students back and welcome our new students into the Storm King family.
Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic took hold in New York this past spring, our staff and administrators have been planning for the 2020-21 school year and the safe opening of our campus in August. Our work has been shaped by the express desire of students and parents to return to campus and in-person instruction, and all of our decisions and plans have kept two goals in sharp focus:
- Ensuring the health and well-being of all of the members of our community
- Delivering our mission of providing a high caliber educational program focused on individual students
Thankfully, cases of Covid-19 in Orange County, where our school is located, have remained very low. Today, on July 1, 2020, Orange County has reported only 5 new positive cases with less than 1% of the population testing positive for the virus. Testing is also widely available throughout our region.
At this time, I would like to outline our thoughts and preparations for reopening to date prepared with the guidance of state and regional health officials, and with input from the New York Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), and other organizations.
In an effort to anticipate your questions, we have prepared a list of Reopening FAQs. Within them you will find information about important calendar changes, new health protocols, testing and social distancing, academics, online learning, dormitory life, and more:
