This time of year, there is so much excitement as we plan for our Annual CommunityFest! Our annual Parish festival will be held October 19th, 20th, and 21st. The section of the CommunityFest that the school covers is Kids’ Games (this includes face painting). All families are asked to volunteer a minimum of 2 hours of time during the weekend in the Kids’ Games section. Please mark your calendar to attend. In this group, students will play percussion instruments, recorders and ukuleles. Students work as a team as they prepare for performances through the school year. There are still openings to join. Please use the registration form under the attachments section of this week’s newsletter if interested.
Faith on Campus
Communion Service
Due to the reupholstering in our church, the students of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School attended a Communion Service in the gym yesterday. Deacon Jerry Kelly was our presider, and sixth grade students volunteered to prepare the readings and intentions. It was a wonderful ceremony, both simple and full of significance, because everyone collaborated in transforming the gym into a place of worship to Our Lord.
In the News
We are now able to Skype with staff and children of the Peace Orphanage in Mexico City!
What started out as just a test call turned into a heart-warming visit with SMM 8th graders and some of the Peace Orphanage children. Founded in 1921 by a group of Benedictine religious sisters, the Peace Orphanage takes in orphaned and abandoned children from all over Mexico City. SMM Parish has been a supporter of the orphanage since 2013 and SMM School has joined in to promote awareness over the last couple of years. We are looking forward to much more interaction with them in the year to come - a rewarding experience for us all!
