There's always lots going on at DCDC! Here are the highlights!

We're Open!
On March 17, Governor Wolfe ordered all non-life-sustaining businesses to cease operations including child care providers, like DCDC. While a waiver was available, DCDC’s Board reached the very difficult decision to remain closed. As an extended family to our program families, their children, employees and the community at large, the Board made this decision to keep all parties safe, acknowledging the public health threat that group child care posed. DCDC remained closed for 11 weeks.
On May 26, DCDC employees returned to their classrooms to prepare for the return of our kiddos on June 1. With a bounty of new policies and procedures to keep our children, families and employees safe and healthy, plus time for staff to reconnect, we had a great first week back. Check out our videos above and below that were made for our families and children! Just click on the pics!

Paying It Forward!
For the second quarter, DCDC's Dietary employees "Paid it Forward" and granted the Admin Support team with items to make their jobs easier! New keyboard trays, monitor display stand and a pocket laminator were some of the items purchased. Pictured is DCDC's receptionist Mary and our Dietary Supervisor, Penny.
Each quarter, DCDC teams chose a recipient for bestowing good will on their fellow teams.

Focus on Preschool Early Education
DCDC’s offers two licensed Preschool Programs. Our full-day year-round preschool is offered at our main campus on Wall Street, and four hour per day school year program is located at our Bloom Road site.
Preschoolers possess a curiosity and willingness to learn that makes planning engaging, thought provoking, and enjoyable lessons a delight for our preschool teachers. Teachers, who hold a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or Elementary Education and their Nursery School Teaching Certificates, lead all our preschool classrooms. These teachers believe that children learn the most when involved in hands-on, meaningful activities. In preschool, the children have the occasion to refine the self-help skills they learned as toddlers, as well as to further develop other school readiness skills that will help them throughout their school careers. Our teachers offer the chance to develop skills across all of the learning areas: arts and science, math, language and literacy through participation in learning stations that are based on the children’s interests.
Additionally, DCDC utilizes the PATHS curriculum in each of its Preschool Classrooms. The PATHS® curriculum is a comprehensive program for promoting emotional and social competencies and reducing aggression and behavior problems in preschool children.

Parents and child care providers are falling apart. It could get much worse
By Jen Rose Smith, CNN
Updated 7:38 AM ET, Mon June 1, 2020
(CNN)Child care is so scarce in Kate Littlefield's Vermont community that she joined a wait-list when she was six weeks pregnant. It wasn't soon enough to find a placement for her infant twins after they were born.
"We couldn't get in until they were 8 months old," she said. "That was the earliest spot we could get, and we called every child care center in my area."
With local child care centers now closed due to the pandemic, Littlefield's 17-month-old babies have been back at home, where she and her husband are working remotely.
"My kids are coming to meetings with me, which is awful," said Littlefield, a school services clinician at the nonprofit Howard Center in Burlington, Vermont. "Two babies crawling all over your body — while you're trying to be professional and trying to pay attention to what people are telling you — is not manageable."
