Westchase District Service Plan Extended through 2045
The Westchase District's Board of Directors voted unanimously last week to extend the District's service plan through 2045. Previously, the District's service plan was set to expire in 2023.
"This extension ensures that Westchase District will be around to continue its core services of public safety, mobility and beautification into the middle of the 21st century," said Philip Schneidau, Board chair. "It positions us to maintain the infrastructure of streets and streetscapes, as well as the amenities - like parks and trails - that we're building through our 380 Program. Securing our operations for the future also allows us to seek an extension of the 380 Program and compete for additional grants."
In accordance with state law, the extension vote followed a process of gathering signed petitions from more than 50 property owners as well as conducting a public hearing, which took place December 5. The service plan maintains the current assessment rate of nine cents for every $100 worth of property value that has been in place since 1995.

Smiles at Target's Heroes & Helpers Shopping Event
Thanks to Target, West Houston Assistance Ministries and our Westchase District Patrol officers for making the Heroes & Helpers holiday shopping event a seasonal success. Last week, officers led 40 local children on a sponsored shopping spree for Christmas gifts courtesy of Target at 10801 Westheimer Road. Each child received a $150 gift card from Target to spend at the store. Then an officer helped them make selections, purchase their items and even gift wrap them for family and friends.
"We're grateful to WHAM for identifying youth who could really use a pick-me-up at the holidays, as well as to Target for providing the gift cards for them to use," said Don McKinney, Westchase District's public safety vice president. "Heroes & Helpers is a great way for our officers to form positive relationships with local children and it feels great to put smiles on everyone's faces."

VIDEO: "How Can the Sky Be the Limit?" Mural Creation
Everyone's favorite mural artist, Larry Crawford, recently completed a new piece of public art for Westchase District. "How Can the Sky Be the Limit?" is located on the west-facing wall of the Market at Westchase shopping center at Wilcrest and Westheimer (11103 Westheimer). The mural, which is 25 feet tall and 64 feet wide, asks "How can the sky be the limit when there are footprints on the moon?" Click on the video link above to see Larry's creative vision materialize.

Coming Soon to Trail System: Emergency Call Boxes
Workers recently installed the bases for eight emergency phones at strategic locations along our trail system. The solar-powered, wireless call boxes are designed to be weather-proof and tamper-resistant. Expect to see them installed by early January.
