Dear Class of 2019 Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back! The senior moderators are excited about the return of the senior
class and preparing for the myriad of events which will celebrate and honor the senior
class as they enjoy their last experiences at Mercy and transition to college.

As we move through this year, the students will be participating in the following events and enjoying various avenues in which to create memories. This is a list of the major events and activities scheduled every year. Each Senior Class Officer Board, however, is able to create new events tailored to the spirit of their class to be added to this list. All of this information can also be found on the senior class webpage here.

In the fall, the students will be participating in the following events:
  • Senior Spirit Week T-shirts: The seniors will choose their own theme and have the opportunity to purchase this memorial t-shirt which is worn on field day. The deadline to order the shirts is this Sunday, September 9th. The order form was sent to all seniors and can be found here.
  • Senior Portraits - If you haven't already done so, all members of the Class of 2019 should make an appointment with Prestige Portraits for their yearbook photo. Appointment slots book quickly and this needs to be completed by September 22nd.
  • Senior Blessing Mass Friday, October 19th: This special mass will be held in the afternoon during the last two hours of the school day and it designed for the seniors only. The priest will deliver a special blessing for the ladies as they begin their last year of high school. Parents and family members are welcome and encouraged to attend! More information on the exact timing will be communicated.
In the spring, the students will have the opportunity to participate in the following events and detailed information pertaining to tickets, timing, and deadlines will be communicated closer to the dates in the spring via email and/or the senior class webpage.
  • Prom: Prom will be held Thursday, May 16 at the Roostertail in Detroit, MI. Information on time, theme, ticket pricing, and dress code will be communicated closer to the date via email or the senior webpage.
  • Baccalaureate Mass Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 6:00pm: Held at Mercy High School to honor the graduating seniors and offer them a final blessing as they transition to a new stage in life. Also, following mass, the seniors partake in a Rose ceremony which dates back to the original Mercy building on Outer Drive designed to honor Mary. Parents and family members are welcome and encouraged to attend. There will be a small reception following Mass.
  • Graduation Practice Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 10:00am: Graduating seniors are required to attend a practice for graduation at the Detroit Opera House. This practice lasts two hours. If a student is not present, she will NOT be allowed to walk at graduation.
  • Graduation will be on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at 2:00pm: Held at the Detroit Opera House in Detroit. The ladies will be required to be present and backstage an hour prior to the event by 1:00pm and doors open to family and friends at 1:30pm
In addition, the students will have opportunities to participate in activities which occur
throughout the year including:
  • Memory DVD: This DVD will consist of photographic memories of all four years at Mercy High School and will be available for purchase. Students will have a variety of deadlines throughout the year to submit photos to possibly be included in the DVD. These deadlines are posted on the senior webpage. The first deadline is for baby pictures (under 2 years old) and must be submitted electronically to  2019officers@mhsmi.org or hard copy (will be returned) to Mrs. Schultheis by October 31.

  • Graduation Sayings: As part of graduation, the seniors will be required to select sayings which represent their sentiments about graduation, high school, or transitioning to a new stage in their lives to be read as they graduate.
Of special note:
  • Graduation Dresses: In order to participate in the graduation ceremony, every student must have her white graduation gown approved by Dr. Cheryl Kreger or her assistant, Mrs. Marlene Wojcik. Seniors are welcome to bring their choice of dress to the Advancement Office for approval at any time during the school year, but it must be approved by graduation rehearsal. Stay tuned for more information about requirements and suggested styles.

  • Yearbook Ad: Honor your senior by purchasing a congratulatory ad in the 2018-19 Lore Yearbook. This ad will appear in full color and is offered in a variety of sizes. Click here for order form and more info. Any Yearbook ad questions can be directed to Hallie Smith at hlsmith@mhsmi.org.
