I met Bruce Logan in person for the first time in 2005 when I took my horse, Gaits, to him for training. Long before that day, I had admired Bruce from afar as a young superstar with the Parelli program. When Gaits turned 5 years old, he began to give me a bit of trouble, and Christi Rains, a talented Parelli professional with whom I studied, told me that Bruce was the guy to help Gaits and me. Boy, was she right! Bruce's work with Gaits was the beginning of a long and very special relationship between Bruce and me and my horses. 

Over the years, Bruce helped Mike and me with a number of our horses, and as an attorney, I helped him with a number of legal issues and contracts . Our trust, friendship and admiration for each other grew, and by the time The Pegasus Project was born, it was inevitable that Bruce would play a major role in its development. He has served as a guiding light for our training program and a wise mentor to help us navigate through challenging times. 

Bruce's talent with horses is undeniable. He's the best colt starter I've ever seen. But most importantly, he understands horses better than anyone around. He strives to see things from the horse's perspective and to build the horse's confidence through communication the horse can understand. He can occasionally be impatient with people (humans can be infuriating in our ignorance), but he's NEVER impatient with a horse. By providing consistency and fairness, he builds trust and develops the horse's talents without force, fear or intimidation. 

 

Bruce has helped us with many Pegasus horses over the years. We have taken in horses that other trainers write off as "untrainable" to have Bruce develop them into safe partners for average riders. He looks at a horse and sees its potential and give the horse the time necessary to develop trust and begin learning. When Bruce heard about the ultra-challenging Phoenix Herd, he stepped up and offered to take the entire group of feral horses to his ranch to get them manageable before bringing them to the Pegasus ranch. We would have been overwhelmed and outmatched without his talents and assistance. 

Currently, Bruce serves as an advisor to the Pegasus board of directors. He fills the important role of not only developing many of our horses but of training our trainers. Bruce is a mentor to our entire staff and shares his extensive knowledge of horsemanship with our young, talented trainers.   

We are fortunate that Bruce continues sharing his vast knowledge with the Pegasus staff, as well as all interested horse enthusiasts. He conducts horsemanship clinics at the Pegasus ranch four times per year. He also welcomes riders to his cattle ranch in Loving, Texas twice per year for instruction and experience in general cow/ranch/cutting work. In addition to helping all of us at Pegasus, Bruce has been a mentor to many aspiring horsemen in the course of his career. Pick up Tik Maynard's recent book, "In The Middle Are The Horsemen," for Tik's accounting of his inspirational journey to truly understand horses. Tik credits Bruce with teaching him more about horses in a few short months than he had learned about horses in the course of his lifetime. It's a great read!
