We are excited to invite you to join us for the Days of Awe, and to support an increasingly vibrant and diverse Jewish community in the city. We are proud and excited to continue our services for the Days of Awe at the Bethel Community Transformation Center (BCTC), and will conclude Yom Kippur by studying, praying, and breaking the fast with our neighbors from Congregation T'chiyah and the Reconstructionist Congregation of Detroit. Sukkah x Detroit
Since biblical times, the sukkah - a temporary structure giving thanks for the fall harvest and commemorating the exodus from Egypt - has served as the centerpiece of the eight-day Jewish holiday of Sukkot. As part of the Detroit Month of Design, five sukkahs, selected through Detroit's largest international design competition in recent history (78 applications from 14 countries), will be displayed in Detroit's historic Capitol Park, accompanied by complementary programs and events.
Detroit, home to 1300 urban farms, is also the only UNESCO City of Design in the United States. Sukkah x Detroit celebrates both. Capitol Park will be transformed into an open-air marketplace featuring produce, food products, crafts, and Jewish educational events interspersed amongst the sukkahs, showcasing Detroit's design, urban agriculture, and Jewish communities on a national and international stage.
We would like to thank our presenting sponsor, The William Davidson Foundation, and all of our program partners, AIA Detroit, ChabaD, Cohn-Haddow, The Arts and Culture Alliance, Design Core Detroit, Downtown Detroit Partnership, Eastern Market, Hazon, Hillel of Metro Detroit, Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, Reboot, Repair the World, and The Well.
We are pleased to announce a new grant from Dan and Jennifer Gilbert to support the exhibition and a 90 page full color printed catalogue of all design images and artists statements. Catalogs will be free of charge to visitors of the exhibition and select Sukkah x Detroit event.

Join us in celebrating the holiday of Sukkot with our second annual Sukkah Hop! We will begin the event at Rabbi's home and travel to the homes of Emily Levine and Brett Willner, and Ruby Robinson and Yifat Clein. At the conclusion of the hop, all are encouraged to return to Capitol Park for the official Sukkah x Detroit Kickoff event at 3:00 p.m. Food, drinks, and Sukkot hospitality will be provided. A Note from the President of the Board
We enter this New Year with exciting changes. We welcome a new program coordinator, Nicole Feinberg, a new administrative assistant, Liz Kannon, an ever-growing calendar of activities, and a new roof, fire escape, and colorful mural on our building. But as we all know, a truly strong future requires that we honor the past. We are recommitting to our nearly 100-year tradition of free services, programs and events, and are hosting our High Holiday services in the city again. Finally, blending the old and new, the services will again feature Robert Orenstein and strong lay participation assisting Rabbi Silverman accompanied by a new, updated machzor, while Yom Kippur afternoon will take place in partnership with Congregation T'chiyah and the Reconstructionist Congregation of Detroit in a second location.
We also have a series of lively Sukkot events in conjunction with Sukkah X Detroit, including 5 sukkahs designed and constructed by architects selected through the largest international design competition in Detroit's recent history. The Jewish New Year offers us the opportunity to reflect upon our lives and our values, assess our actions and relationships, and strive to do better in the coming year. There is much work to do to create that more equitable, kind, and just world that we know is possible and must come to fruition. I wish you strength, courage, and wisdom to create for yourself a year of honest assessment, deep reflection, and the conviction to work toward positive change.
Thank you to all our members, supporters, volunteers, and participants for your donations, your gifts of time and talent, and your ongoing commitment to our synagogue - the hub of Jewish life in the heart of Detroit. We appreciate and value your connection and engagement with us and, as always, invite you to become an integral part of our resurgence and revitalization as we enhance our religious services, programming, and our physical building.

During our Shabbat morning worship, we read the names of people in our community who are in need of healing. As we invoke God's blessing, we also become more aware of the people who could use a little extra care. Please let us know if you would like us to read the name of a loved one.

We're always seeking volunteers to help us in the kitchen! We pride ourselves on our delicious home cooked Shabbat meals. If you want to contribute to the synagogue by cooking, please contact our Kitchen Coodinator to get on the schedule.
Clean House!
As we work to clean up and clear out in our Synagogue, we ask your cooperation. If you notice a spill, please wipe it up. If you drop crumbs, please clean them up. If you use the kitchen, please clean up. If you have extra papers or handouts, please take them home to recycle them. Just a reminder: please no food or drinks (other than water) are allowed on the 2nd floor. As we continue to create our welcoming communal home, please help us to keep it inviting. As the saying goes, "it takes a village."

Liven up your weekly routine by joining us to welcome Shabbat. In the midst of busy schedules and tantalizing local events, Friday nights at IADS remain a signature weekly rhythm. Whether you have joy you wish to share in song or you are feeling in the mood to just be quietly present, we have a place reserved just for you. Services at 7:00 pm followed by a deliciously prepared Kosher vegetarian dinner. End your hectic work week with

Where would Jews be without the Torah? Torah is the center of our Saturday Shabbat service. It is a mitzvah to make a
minyan so we can read the Torah and people can say
kaddish. Please come to the Saturday morning Shabbat service at 10:00. We want to pass the Torah
l'dor vador.
