Winter 2018-19

DID YOU KNOW?  null
According to a national study, only 4% of Americans can identify basic insurance terms and
definitions? And people who don't understand how their health insurance works or how to estimate out-of-pocket costs are more likely to avoid needed care than those with a firm grasp of what services should cost, another  study shows.

We know insurance can be pretty complicated so we've put together a glossary of common dental insurance terms and definitions for you and your employees to use to make navigating your dental experience a little bit easier! We also encourage your employees to use our handy cost-estimator tool which provides estimated cost ranges for common dental care needs so they'll be prepared before they set foot in the dentist's office.

DELTA DENTAL EMPLOYEES GIVE BACK TO COLORADO NONPROFITS
As a nonprofit dedicated to improving the well-being of all Coloradans, Delta Dental of Colorado's community engagement program connects employees with causes that impact our communities. Our mission-building activities strengthen our partnerships with Colorado's nonprofits, both big and small, in three ways:
  • Employee engagement through volunteerism, financial donations, and board participation
  • Community outreach through supporting the work of other nonprofits through programs, events, and sponsorships
  • Strategic community partnerships through including oral health as part of all health conversations and activities
In the spirit of the recent celebration of Thanksgiving and our 60th anniversary, we are honored to have  contributed $120,000 to ten Colorado-based nonprofit organizations through our employee-driven iGive program.

To celebrate the company's philanthropic outreach and honor employees, Delta Dental of Colorado hosted an event last month, bringing together community leaders and recipients of iGive funds at our new Catalyst HTI space. iGive allows each of our 200 employees and board members to nominate and select charities to receive contributions. In honor of our 60th anniversary, each employee was given $600 to donate to one of the ten charities.

"Our employees are at the center of what makes our company energy great," said Helen Drexler, chief executive officer of Delta Dental of Colorado. "The spirit of giving back, as captured by iGive, is how we honor their hard work while also partnering with nonprofits reaching Colorado communities across the state."

2018 iGive recipients include:
  • Alzheimer's Association of Colorado
  • Project Worthmore
  • Northwest Colorado Health
  • Pueblo Community Health Center
  • Food for Thought Denver
  • Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention
  • Task Force: ISO
  • Life Stories Child and Family Advocacy
  • Camp Wapiyapi
  • Denver Dumb Friends League

WELLNESS STARTER KIT
LifeSmile Wellness Flyer
Did you know that Delta Dental's LifeSmile program is a national wellness communications program? LifeSmile is intended to help educate members about the importance of their oral health, how it relates to their overall health, and how they can best use their dental benefits to take care of it. The program materials feature oral and overall health topics such as diabetes, dental visit anxiety, and periodontal disease. Download our LifeSmile wellness starter kit for a quick look at the program marketing collateral. These items can help you begin the conversation of the connection between oral and overall health with your employees.

You can also find many more wellness materials  available for download on our website under Communications Tools for Employers.   We also have resources available in Spanish by request. We invite you to share these resources with your employees and encourage them to make their oral health a priority.

For questions regarding oral health and wellness material or cobranding opportunities, please contact your account specialist.
