Cornerstone Sunday
This Sunday, November 10 is Cornerstone Sunday

By this date, we ask everyone in the parish to make a pledge to Christ Church for 2020. You may do that online through our website or by clicking below, by calling or emailing our Financial Administrator, Cindy Lyman, or by filling out a pledge card and leaving it in the basket at Church this Sunday. Pledge income is the biggest source of funds for our parish life together and this year the Wardens have asked that we increase our giving by 10% over last year's pledge. Our Four Cornerstones form the foundation of the practice of our faith: Worship more than we don't; Seek a deeper understanding of our faith; Serve Christ in other people; and Give as generously as God gives to us. Thank you for your continuing support for all we do in Christ's name together as Christ Church. You can pledge HERE.

In 2012, Tom was appointed General Counsel for the firm and has held that position for the past 7 years. Tom and his wife, Dr. Amy Kuhns, moved to Northfield in 1989 and have been members of Christ Church since 1990.

Sunday Nov. 17: Coffee Hour Chat on Faith & Workers' Rights with The Rev. Dr. Joy Rogers

What do our scriptures and Christian tradition have to say about the relationship between faith and the rights of working people-particularly the working poor? Come to the Lea Room during coffee hour on Sunday Nov. 17 for a conversation with The Rev. Dr. Joy Rogers to find out! Joy is the former dean of St. James Cathedral in Chicago, and a member of the Board of Directors of ARISE Chicago-an interfaith partnership of faith communities and workers advocating for the dignity and rights of all working people, in Chicago and beyond. Learn more at www.arisechicago.org.

Churchyard Rates to Increase on Dec. 1

Just a friendly reminder...at the end of September we sent out a letter to the parish about the fact that the cost of spaces in our lovely Churchyard were going up on Dec.1, 2019. It has been a dozen years since we have done this. If you are interested in purchasing space, just contact our Parish Administrator, Charlotte McGee, at 847-446-2850 or [email protected].

Youth & Children's News
Youth-made Christmas Ornaments for Christmas Angels

Looking for Christmas gifts that make a difference? Look no further than our next coffee hour! Outside the McClain Room, the youth are selling ornaments they made to raise money for Christ Church's Christmas Angels program, which helps the needy during the holiday season. We will continue to sell them through Christmas, while supplies last! Thank you to all who have already supported the youth and Christmas Angels by purchasing an ornament!
Soul Fuel meets Elves off the Shelves Nov. 10

Our next high school youth group meeting, dubbed Soul Fuel, will meet on Sunday,November 10 from 4-5PM for Elves off the Shelves! We will be decorating cookies and assembling them into care packages for our college students. We will also be announcing our summer Mission Trip location at this event!

Our theme for the year is Making Difficult Decisions. This month we consider how we choose to spend our time and energy when there are so many demands on it. Jeremiah 31:33 will be our inspiration.

All high schoolers and their friends are welcome. RSVP to Megan or just show up!
Christian Formation Summit Fri. Nov. 15, 6:00-8:30PM

Do you care deeply about passing on the faith to our children and youth? Then please join us for the Children's and Youth Formation Summit on Nov. 15! With the help of Ministry Architects, we will create a formation plan that spans birth to graduation from high school and includes what we want our young people to learn, feel and do. We are inviting all interested parishioners to share their priorities, values and experiences to inform our master plan for formation. You do not need to have a child currently involved in children's or youth ministries to participate. We want to hear from many voices and many perspectives!

We will meet in the Chapel at 470 Maple, Winnetka for dinner and discussion. Childcare provided. Please RSVP to Melissa or Megan.
Thank you!
Kids Connection - Nov. 17

Kids Connection is a monthly program for all 3rd and 4th graders to get together and connect with their faith and each other. The next Kids Connection is Sunday, November 17, 4:00-4:50PM. We will prepare to celebrate the season of Advent and the joy of the coming of Jesus by learning about one of our Advent saints, St. Nicholas. We will also do a service project: building and painting a boat out of a refrigerator box to be used at Wrap N Roll on December 8.
Mission Trip Info Meeting - Nov. 18

Why do youth go on mission trips? How is it beneficial to both the community we visit and those on the trip? How does a mission trip change a person? Why do colleges and employers value it so much?

Mission trips get at the heart of what it means to be a Christian and connect us to the work of Jesus' disciples. Mission trips give youth the chance to:
  • Focus on helping others.
  • Learn from people with cultural differences, in an unfamiliar place.
  • Reflect on their faith, talents, and community.
All current 8th through 12th graders, their parents, and friends are invited to a Mission Trip Information Meeting on Monday, November 18 from 6-7PM at 784 Sheridan Road, Winnetka. We will talk about where we are going, why that location needs our help, and all the kinds of fun stuff that will be a part of our trip! Please  RSVP - or just show up!
Christmas Pageant Sign-Up!

All children and youth are invited to join us for our Christmas Pageant to be performed Sunday, December 15 at the 9:30 service. Our beautiful and low-stress pageant requires no memorizing of lines, only one rehearsal for the older children, and no rehearsal at all for ages three through 2nd grade (except for Primary Choir, who will attend rehearsal.)

The role of Mary is already taken for this year, but we have plenty of additional roles to suit everyone: Joseph, Baby Jesus, angels, shepherds, sheep, and friendly beasts. Plus narrators, scene directors, and behind the scenes helpers. Costumes provided. Primary Choir and Third Grade Choir do not need to sign up, they automatically have a role.

Our one rehearsal is Saturday, December 14, 9:00-11:00 for all cast members age third grade and up AND Primary Choir choristers.

Please sign up on our website or send an email with requested roles to  [email protected] or  [email protected].
