SPARTAN SCOOP
SEPTEMBER 2018
Greetings! Our e-newsletter now has an official name, Spartan Scoop (woop, woop)! We hope you had a relaxing Labor Day weekend. Our ADS family has hit the ground running and we have another great month ahead! We had a fabulous turnout at our ice cream social! Thank you for joining us in fun, fellowship and yummy treats! It was a SWEET way to start the school year!

Communication is the key to success, so the PTO has launched a Facebook page exclusive to ADS staff and parents! It is a great way for our school family to connect, inquire about school events, and know all things ADS! Best of all, it's a private page. Only ADS parents and staff can join, view posts and comment/ask questions.

To join, get on Facebook and search for ' ADS PTO '. You can also invite your ADS parent Facebook friends. We currently have 42 members, and we want that number to grow!
A Letter from the Head of School
Dear Parents:

September is upon us and school is off to a super start in Preschool through Eighth grade. It has been a pleasure working in my new role and I would like to say thank you to all the parents for welcoming me and sharing such kind words.

It was great to see you all at Meet the Parents and Curriculum Nights. The communication between parents and teachers is vital. Learning the routines and expectations your children have at school helps us form a team to support your child.

The Ice Cream Social on August 22nd was a big success. Thank you to Katerina Katsadouros  and all her helpers for organizing this event. Events like this bring our community together and are an important part of school life. Without parent support we can’t offer fun activities like this for your children.

So, this is leading me to say that we need more parental involvement. Thank you to all the parents who filled out forms to volunteer! With only 15% of parents currently offering to help the school and PTO with events, we need more help. I would like to invite all K-8 parents to attend a school-wide PTO meeting on Thursday, September 13th for K-8 parents at 8:20 in Carlos Hall and then afterward at 9:35 there will be another meeting for Preschool parents . At this meeting you will get a chance to meet our Co-Chairs and Board Members of the PTO. The needs for events will be discussed and you will be given an opportunity to find events or ways to help that fit your talents and time availability. Every little bit helps, just find something that fits your schedule! If every family gives six hours of their time as listed in the School Handbook, we will be able to offer all of the great events your children look forward to each year.  Many hands make light work!

Be sure to check the “Dates to Remember” section of this newsletter. Picture Day, Church services, International Day of Peace and the Greek Festival are all ahead in September!

Best,

Janet Brown

Welcome to Mrs. Deborah Ollinger our new art teacher. Mrs. Ollinger has planned so many fun activities for your children. In the month ahead she will be working on the elements of art with each week concentrating on one element- line, shape, color, form, value, texture and space. The study of these elements will culminate in projects using all of these elements. Older students will be drawing a Grecian urn and younger students will create a still life picture.
Show your Spartan Spirit by attending our volleyball games and cross country meets! GO SPARTANS!
