Chamber Updates
Greetings!

Welcome to the Coffeyville Area Chamber Quarterly Report. The purpose of this publication is to provide our members with updates on Chamber programs, accomplishments and committee updates.

From the Chairman
Chamber Members,

It has been over a month since my last report and I wanted to touch base with you on the progress for this year.  We conducted our Annual Board Retreat earlier this month. During this meeting we identified several areas for improvement and noted some successful outcomes.  As I mentioned earlier this year, my priorities are to improve economic development, increase our communication with our members, and reinforce or strengthen our member relationships.  These objectives have not changed.  However, I also wanted to express that this year will likely also be a rebuilding year.

We have a couple of new staff members who are quickly navigating their roles.  However, it will take time for them to fully acclimate and gain proficiency.  We also have several new and returning board members. The retreat served not only as a planning session, but also as an avenue for cultivating cohesion.  With a rather large board, there were several ideas for next steps.  Our attention now turns towards synthesizing these ideas and solidifying our program of work.

As I look back at where the chamber was 25+ years ago, I see the areas where we have drifted.  I want you to know that I am dedicated to getting us back on track. I also am confident that our board and staff are invested in doing what is necessary to build a successful chamber for its members.  Stay tuned over the next several weeks.  We will be soliciting feedback, involvement, and publishing our program of work.  Thank you to those who have already submitted feedback and noted a desire for involvement.

Sincerely,
Eric Valle
Board Chairman

Governmental Affairs
The Governmental Affairs Committee is active in representing the voice of Coffeyville businesses to our local government. The committee kept active this quarter reaching out to our state Senator and Representatives. In February, the committee brought several Coffeyville leaders to the capitol for the Kansas Chamber Annual Dinner. This event always provides high level networking with business leaders, dignitaries and elected officials.
In March, the committee hosted a Legislative Coffee. Senator Dan Goddard, Representative Jim Kelly and Representative Rich Proehl attended this free event that allowed area residents an opportunity to hear first hand the issues facing our legislators and government officials.

Tourism
Changes to Tourism:
Coffeyville Convention & Visitors Bureau has changed to  Visit Coffeyville. The reason for this change is so people understand immediately what our purpose is and how we can help our visitors. The trend to move over to a "Visit" or "Explore" has been sweeping the nation, so Coffeyville has made the change to adapt. We will continue to promote and market Coffeyville to attract visitors to our area!
Be looking in the next few months for a new visitcoffeyville website that will be designed by Dream on Marketing.

The power of a Chamber referral
We always want to encourage our members to be involved and use the resources we provide them to grow their businesses. And then go out and spread the word!
What's in it for you?
Our members play an important role in positive growth and building a stronger business community. A larger membership strengthens the Chamber's voice advocating on issues of importance, enhances services for our members and provides more business connections. With your referral, your company is planting the seeds to help grow the Chamber and establish strong roots for our members
How else does a referral help you?  Everyone's heard the saying, "what goes around comes around." Another reason to refer potential Chamber members is the good karma. When you refer people to valuable resources they need, they appreciate the helpful service you've provided. Nothing can increase your business success more than upping your cred. Having the Chamber on your side is extremely credible, as proven in a national study by the Shapiro Group which found consumers are 49 percent more likely to think favorably of Chamber member businesses and 80 percent more likely to purchase goods or services from them. By referring people to the Chamber, you'll start to be viewed as an influencer - a resource to go to.
Above all else, being a member is so much more than the sticker you put in your front window; it's about connections, referrals and networking.  And when you refer a business to the Chamber, you're helping them grow, which in turn supports the growth of our local economy. We all win!
