Reynolds Mirth Richards and Farmer (RMRF) will be featured as the Small Communities Committee speaker at the upcoming Convention in Red Deer the morning of September 26. The committee has decided to take a deep dive into the ever-complex topic of
municipal rights-of-way specific to small municipalities
. To ensure as many questions are answered as possible, AUMA is asking members to submit their questions about municipal rights of way in advance.

. The resolutions will be debated and voted on during the 2018 AUMA Convention. We recommend councils review these resolutions in advance of convention so you are prepared for the debate and voting.

In 2017, AUMA launched a letter writing campaign to help municipalities advocate for improved provincial recycling programs. In an effort to elevate these issues further, and enhance recycling programs over all in Alberta, AUMA has updated the
recycling campaign letter
to reflect advocating for Extended Producer Responsibility regulations for paper and packaging materials, and emerging waste such as agricultural plastics.

AUMA has partnered with the Alberta Assessors’ Association (AAA), Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA), and the Alberta Rural Municipal Administrators’ Association (ARMAA) to present a unified voice against the proposed Regulated Industrial Property Assessment Guide (RIPA). AUMA has also requested a meeting with the Minister of Municipal Affairs to discuss this issue in detail.

In June, the Alberta Legislature passed Bill 13,
An Act to Secure Alberta’s Electricity Future
. Bill 13 amends a number of existing statutes, most notably to enable the creation of a “capacity market” for electricity generation. The first capacity auction is expected to occur in late 2019, and the capacity market is expected to be operational in 2021.
