PetConnect Rescue News - September 2018  Edition

A Message From Our Founder.

It's hard to believe that this month marks the 13th anniversary of PetConnect Rescue! What started out as a desire to help a few local pets find homes turned into a massive rescue mission when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. There wasn't time to stop and think, we simply sprung into action. Our "Katrina" animals were initially housed in crates in my garage, word spread and local animal lovers came out of seemingly nowhere and offered to help. At that time, we didn't have a website, volunteer sign-up sheets, funds, or anything that resembled organized policies or procedures. But we had a lot of heart then and we h ave even more today.

We sure have come a long way. PetConnect Rescue now has...
  • over 200 dedicated volunteers
  • two rescue centers for dogs young and old (Muddy Paws Farm in Mt. Airy and the Hadorn Canine Cottage in Upper Marlboro)
  • a vibrant cat rescue program
  • regular adoption events and fun outreach programs in Maryland, DC and Virginia
We continue to promote the benefits of animal adoption and we are rewarded by seeing that more people than ever are turning to rescue rather than to breeders. Our Adoption Coordinators and Fosters are truly extraordinary. So too are those who transport, snap photos, craft compelling write-ups, promote our mission through social media, staff events, collect supplies, hold fundraisers and so much more.

Most importantly, we can count many thousands of animals who are now safe in loving homes because of our combined efforts.

Thank you all for joining me on this rescue journey and congratulations on being such a vital part of the animal rescue movement.

With Much Gratitude,
Lizette Chanock

Our Awesome Adoptables!
Misty
Cameo

Hi there, I'm Misty. I'm a
1-2 year old chocolate lab mix
with a  patch of white on my chest. Sadly, I was abandoned at the shelter and had to stay there for almost 4 months!  I was used to living in the country so being in a cage all the time made me so sad. But, now I live in a home. They
are so nice to me, but I'm ready
to  meet my forever family. I'm a
little shy so I need just the right people to take me in.  Just so
you know, I LOVE sitting on
the  couch and cuddling.
Will you let me curl up on yours?

Well, hello. I'm Cameo, also known as Cami. I came all the way up from North Carolina. I've been told I've got it all. I'm an interesting looking, super soft torbie with a fluffy tail. More importantly though, I love people. I even love dogs and cats. My favorite thing to do is to chase the laser light. I also love playing with wand strings. What I'd like more than anything in the whole world is to find a family who will love me forever. Oh, and who are also willing to donate their laps for napping. Please, won't you pick me?

You Won't Want To Miss A Thing!
