SUMMERTIME!

We’re halfway thru 2020 but in some respects it feels like we’ve already lived decades. Between politics, protests and pandemics… it has been an unprecedented time.

Now it’s SUMMERTIME! and here’s hoping the living gets easy… or at least easier. Flags were flying on 4th of July as we celebrated with family and friends… socially distanced, of course. Even tho local communities cancelled parades and fireworks… the night sky was ablaze with private fireworks until nearly midnight!

Let’s keep these "lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer” safe days! By request of many readers who frequently travel the Lake Ave. / Burkehaven Hill “Loop” and other town roads with uphills & down and many blind spots… a reminder to walkers: Please adhere to the safety recommendation: while enjoying the view, “Walk single file, facing oncoming traffic... and keep dogs on a close leash. This way we can be aware of each other and avoid accidents. Bike riders travel in same direction as vehicle traffic. (Haven’t a clue on skate boarders' street etiquette.) Drivers, please observe the 20 MPH Speed Limit. Spotted on the “Loop walk”… a rare yellow peony.

Man Captures Amazing Photos of Mama Goose Watching Over 47 Goslings

This mama's got a full nest!

Mike Digout loves photographing the local wildlife along the banks of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon, Canada. Last month, he spotted a mother goose with her babies... and more babies... and more babies! Typically a goose raises about six goslings in a season. This mama had 47!

Mike posted about the funny phenomenon on Facebook. It turns out, goose families often come together to form "gang broods" in which different adults take turns watching over the goslings. In other words, this mother goose is the world's busiest babysitter.

ROAD TRIP

If you’ve been feeling a bit confined due to pandemic precautions… perhaps a two hour road trip thru scenic countryside to an outdoor museum is in order. The Rokeby Museum in Ferrisburgh VT has an exhibit pertinent to the times, tracing the history of the underground rail road in New England.
