Join us for the first concert
of the SSO's Season 14

The SSO's new season will open Saturday, September 15, featuring the work of Claude Debussy, Allan Stephenson and Alexander Borodin.

Debussy based his symphonic poem, Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune (The Afternoon of the Faun), on a poem by Frenchman Stéphane Mallarmé.

Liesel Deppe
Soloist for Stephenson's Piccolo Concerto will be Liesel Deppe. Stephenson, born in 1949, has had a career as composer, cellist and conductor in South Africa. Ms. Deppe, who lives in Stratford, grew up and went to school in South Africa. She plays with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra as well as the SSO.

Borodin's Symphony No. 2 will be presented following intermission and contains some of Borodin's most recognizable melodies. Though a familiar name to classical music aficionados, Borodin, a Russisan, was better known during his life as an eminent chemist and a distinguished physician who referred to himself as a "Sunday composer."

On the podium for the SSO will be principal conductor William Rowson.

The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will be held in Avondale United Church, 194 Avondale Avenue.

Tickets are available at Fanfare Books and Blowes Stationery in Stratford and at Lyric Flowers in St. Marys, as well as online and at the door. Adult: $40; student: $10. Children under 12 are admitted free.

Season subscriptions ($190) will be available at the concert. For persons who have already purchased a ticket to the opening concert the ticket price will deducted from the price of the subscription.
