Message from the CEO
WA in the spotlight: Members may be aware that on Friday 9 November, our dynamic and growing WA branch is hosting its digital health conference HITWA 2018. This prestigious event will be officially opened by WA Health Minister Roger Cook and with great serendipity is happening in the same month WA awaits the release of the outcomes of the Sustainable Health Review. HISA contributed to the review with a submission focused on ways to encourage and drive digital health innovation in the State. With a featured panel on the health workforce of the future, the conference promises some lively discussion. HITWA always features some of Australia’s most insightful digital health and telehealth case studies, research and implementations. When a large contingent from WA attended HIC 2018 in Sydney this year, the largest possibly ever from the State, we benefited from their wealth of experience and shared knowledge. If you are in WA or are able to plan your travel around this unique event, we would strongly encourage you to attend.

Congratulations CHIAs! HISA Board member Phil Robinson was on site to congratulate 18 Bendigo Health staff who recently completed their CHIA certification.

Invite to next cybersecurity survey
Take part in the 2018 cybersecurity survey: The general community places its trust in the healthcare system to safeguard health information. Is the health care system doing enough to safeguard health information? We released the findings from the 2017 cybersecurity survey and are now running the survey again this year to understand what has changed, what has improved and what is yet to be done to safeguard health information. The 2018 cybersecurity survey is now open and will close 15th October, 2018.

A White Paper on Leadership in Clinical Informatics is now available online. The paper was developed to acknowledge the important role of clinicians in leading digital transformation in health.
A White Paper on Leadership in Clinical Informatics is now available online. The paper was developed to acknowledge the important role of clinicians in leading digital transformation in health.
HISA’s Clinical Informatics Community of Practice (CoP) believes leadership in clinical informatics is imperative if we are to get the future of healthcare right in a world where digital is ubiquitous. Leadership skills in clinical informatics must be developed if we are to ensure technology brings value to healthcare delivery and patient experience. This leadership capability needs to be acknowledged by organisations embarking on their digital transformation and, by professional colleges who hold their registered health care professionals accountable for their conduct and practice. Precision and personalised medicine with AI - a Queensland case study
Precision medicine brings together existing and new data, human skill, data analytics and compute capability to explore complex patterns of disease. This will result in better, more tailored treatments, healthier populations and a more efficient and effective health system.

Come and hear Nicholas Therkelsen-Terry, CEO & co-founder of a Brisbane-based data analytics and artificial intelligence company, Max Kelsen, who have been awarded a $2.6 million CRC-P grant. Working alongside genomiQa, QIMR, BGI and QLD Health Metro North Hospital and Health Service, Max Kelsen plans to integrate artificial intelligence and whole-genome sequencing into cancer research and clinical practice.

This project will see genomic data combined with AI technologies to predict patient responses to cancer treatments. The collaboration of technology researchers at Max Kelsen with world-class health researchers is poised to push the fields of artificial intelligence and cancer research forward.
