MOFFAT LIBRARY
RECEIVES $135,000
NYS LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION GRANT

The Moffat Library of Washingtonville received calls from both the offices of Senator William J. Larkin and Assemblyman James Skoufis last week, notifying us that we were to receive $135,000.00 in grant proceeds towards the renovation of the library's historic carriage house building.

Once renovated, the restored carriage house will provide additional and much-needed space for the Library's local history and other special collections.

In 2017 an appropriation of $24 million in capital funds for public library construction was included in the state budget.  This week's announcement of projects to receive funding occurred a year after the library's submission of a successful application.

"We are thrilled to be able to have an additional space to assist in providing even more services to the community," said Library Director Carol McCrossen.  "Moreover, the fact that we are able to rehabilitate an existing historic structure to meet those needs makes this even more exciting for us.  On behalf of the Moffat Library, we express our sincerest thanks to our NYS Legislators for their continued support of libraries and the communities that they serve."

Final approval for the project is expected soon; and construction should be getting underway in the months following.

Aaron Lefkowitz

Thursday, Sept. 20th
@ 6:30 PM

For over 4 years, the British & French had attempted to break the German defenses on the Western Front and bring an end to the First World War. In the Summer of 1918, with the arrival of US Troops, the Allies were making headway.

In late September, American General John Pershing launched the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. This now forgotten action involved over 1.2 million Americans and would be the largest and bloodiest battle in US History.

As we approach its 100th anniversary, it is even more important to know about this pivotal battle, which was responsible for the end of the Great War.

Join historian, Aaron Lefkowitz and l earn about the last major battle of World War I and how its outcome has shaped world history.
