A Message from Pastor Austin
S

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5

The First Commandment our Lord gives us is "You shall have no other gods." All people, in all walks of life are desperately looking for happiness, identity, security, and meaning in life and it's in moment's of strife and difficulty we so often trust other things. Sometimes it's material things, other times it's ideologies or philosophies. We turn to addictions, and we turn to ourselves. We all have our laundry list but time and time again we realize nothing but our Lord will suffice. In Luther's Small Catechism he states

"We should fear, love, and trust in God
above all things."

ALL is the word that gives me trouble. All things?

This week we swan dive into Colossians 3. In the book of Colossians, the Apostle Paul reminds us that in Christ "all things were created in heaven and on earth." He stated in Christ "all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell." God's enduring word reminds us who Jesus is, and what he has done. Paul reminds in in chapter 3 that since we are alive in Christ, and raised to new life with him, "seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set you minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth."

Since Jesus is the creator of all things why wouldn't we trust him with "all things." If we are honest we pretty much trust him with most things. So our Lord gives us his Word- written and proclaimed for all the world to hear. No other god will suffice. We trust in the One True God for all that we need. He is the One who not only created us, but sustains us today and for all eternity because Christ Jesus our Lord redeemed us by giving Himself to be crucified for you and for me. He now sanctifies us, and comforts us through the power of the Holy Spirit. There is no other god. Our Lord Jesus is sufficient.

Prayer: In these troubling times, remind us Lord Jesus that you alone are sufficient. AMEN.

Join us Sunday as start our new sermon series "Sufficient"
I can't wait!

Austin
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
