The Highlander girls swim & dive team had a big week this week! Both the JV and Varsity teams competed in the North Shore Conference Championship meet.
Junior Varsity:
Last Saturday, the JV swimmers competed and were in 5th place before the Diving competition. On Friday night, HHS hosted the Conference Dive Meet and the HHS JV divers took the competition by storm, pushing the JV team to a 4th place finish! Carly Nickerson dove her way to 3rd place overall with 138.00 points, and Eryn Greuel finished in 5th place overall with 128.25 points. Congratulations!
Varsity:
The Varsity Conference Diving competition was also held Friday evening and divers Lauren Van Vooren and Hannah Tracy represented the Highlanders very well! Lauren finished in 2nd place overall, scoring 390.90 points and Hannah finished in 3rd place overall scoring 385.15 points. Way to go girls!!
Saturday, the Varsity team took to the pool and swam strong throughout the day, with many best times and a lot of enthusiasm. Podium finishes for the Highlanders include 5th Place for the 200 freestyle A relay team of Michelle Martin, Bella Magee, Katie Lennie, and Mariah Reynolds. Rebecca Yang and Catherine Seiberlich finished with the 7th and 8th place podium spots in the 100 butterfly. The 400 freestyle A relay team of Rebecca Yang, Catherine Seiberlich, Mariah Reynolds, and Michelle Martin also finished strong in 7th place. Rounding out the podium finishes, was Bella Magee with an 8th place in the 100 freestyle.
Additional amazing swims scoring points included Catherine Seiberlich in the 200 freestyle (9th), Mariah Reynolds in the 200 freestyle (12th), Michelle Martin in the 100 backstroke (12th), Bella Magee in the 100 breaststroke (10th), Ellie Thomas in the 100 freestyle (14th) and the 100 backstroke (15th) Megan Gehl in the 500 freestyle (15th), Rebecca Yang in the 200 IM (13th) Alice Berezovski in the 50 freestyle (12th), Helena Zhao in the 50 freestyle (13th) and the 100 backstroke (10th) and Katie Lennie in the 100 breaststroke (9th) and the 200 Individual Medley (14th).
The Varsity relays also swam well with the 200 medley A relay of Ellie Thomas, Catherine Seiberlich, Katie Lennie and Bella Magee finishing 10th overall and the 200 medley B relay of Helena Zhao, Alice Berezovski, Megan Gehl, and Katie Krol in 12th. The 200 freestyle B relay consisting of Ellie Thomas, Helena Zhao, Rebecca Yang, and McKenna Donovan finished in 13th place overall. The 400 freestyle B relay finished the day with Megan Gehl, Ellie Capper, Kyra Hansen and Alice Berezovski ending in 13th place overall.
Great effort by all Highlanders!!!
Our next match up is the Sectional meet which will begin Friday evening, November 8th, with the diving competition at 6pm and the swimming competition starting at 12 noon on Saturday November 9th, 2010. Both events will be held at Cedarburg High School.

The Homestead Soccer team had to wait an extra day to play the five time defending Division 1 champions, current number one in the state and twelfth in the the nation, Marquette Hilltoppers. Due to an unexpected Halloween snowstorm the game was played Friday afternoon in front of a huge Homestead crowd, including almost 175 students packing the sideline. The teams played to a scoreless tie during regulation. Then in the first half of overtime Colin Satchie took a pass from Villads Beck and scored. Then the defense of Jake Haberer, Teddy Schaal, Manav Shah, Josh Teplin, and goalie Colin Packard kept the high powered Marquette team scoreless to secure the victory. About 24 hours later the team played Neenah for a berth to the state finals. After going down early, Colin Satchie scored late in the second half to get the team to overtime again. This time though, Neenah found the net early and held on to beat the Highlanders 2-1.
A huge thanks to all the students, friends and families who showed up again on Saturday for probably the biggest crowd in a decade to watch Homestead Soccer. A bigger thanks goes out to the coaches! First year head coach Tony Navarre with assistants Kelly Denk and Kathy Connelly led this team to their most successful season in over ten years, 19 wins and only 2 losses. Their leadership and commitment to Homestead Soccer was outstanding. Lastly, thanks to the wonderful Seniors who have made this season so special; Colin Packard, Seth Amland, Thomas Hadcock, Drew Braaten, Christopher Golden, Colin Satchie, Chris Tiako, Josh Teplin, Andrew Shih, Villads Beck, John Stoker, and Grayson Jennings.

The Homestead Boys Varsity Volleyball season came to an end on Tuesday October 29th during their sectional playoffs at Germantown High School. The Highlanders lost in 3 hard fought sets against the Warhawks, who have a team full of seasoned club talent. Duly noted, last year the Warhawks were State Champs for Boys Volleyball. The Highlanders lost the first set 17-25, although they had some hard fought rallies. At one point, Homestead tied the score 15-15 and pretty much quieted and stunned a large and historically boisterous Germantown home based crowd. The Highlanders lost their defensive rhythm at the start of the second set, but played tough in the middle of the set, nevertheless unable to make up ground and losing the set 16-25. Homestead started out the 3rd set slowly and got behind 9-16 however they put in some tremendous effort to rally back to 15-18. As like in the second set, the team lost their momentum along with the set and the match; they ended with a score of 18-25. Indians End Highlander Playoff Bid ~ Erin Meyer
Slippery conditions, talented running, and home field advantage compiled to make Homestead’s 2nd run for the state title in as many years a lost cause. Kudos to the varsity effort on both sides of the ball, but the Menomonee Falls punt returner (#1) juked his way past too many defenders and on to week three with a 32-19 final.
The return of Ian Sheehy (#9) at QB, gave the visiting Homestead fans high hopes despite MF scoring early with 12 unanswered points; both 2-pt. conversions were stopped by the D-Line. Homestead remained strong on 4th-and-short, converting several times throughout the game, but scoring remained elusive. Defensively, Charlie Sileno (#6) intercepted on a Falls 4th down to turn the tide. JJ Covill (#36) and Luke Konik (#4) punched up the middle, resulting in a score and PAT. 7-12, Mequon found themselves back in the hunt. Menomonee Falls responded with another punt return TD, another failed 2-pt try, and the score a dismal 18-7 to end the 1st half.
Sam Warshauer (#33) became the hero of the opening 3rd quarter series by breaking up 3 of the 4 missed MFHS red zone passes. After a controversial 1st down measurement, Covill slipped in for another 6, but the 2-pt. conversion was denied, and Falls scored again, changing the scoreboard to 25-13. A short time later, Ayo Adebogun (#98) got to the Indian QB for a 6 yard loss and sack followed by the student section chanting his name.
Oliver Sewart (#34) had an amazing catch-plus-penalty to set up midfield yardage for the Highlanders. Sheehy made the most of it with a well-timed keeper and a key 1st down with 7 minutes left. Covill scored another 6, making a come-from-behind victory possible: 25-19 Falls. The final “do or die” minutes were a jumble of hotly contested ref. calls, one for pass interference and another for a possible missed false start. The momentum shifted, the clock ticked, and the Indians ran into the endzone to face the next challenge.
