The 22nd Sunday after Pentecost
November 10, 2019

Luke 20:27-38
"God of the Living "

It's really tempting to try to picture the afterlife through the eyes of the world we know, but Jesus says it will be different.

From the Pastor

Greetings, Round Rock Christian Church, on this Election Day 2019. This year there are  lots of statewide amendment propositions (10 of them!) ranging from flood control to state income tax to cancer research to care of law enforcement animals. I f you live in Williamson County there are propositions to provide funding for roads and recreation.  If you live outside of Williamson County, have your own unique issues to vote on. It seems it's all about  quality of life and the use of resources.

If you haven't yet voted, I urge you to take the opportunity to do so before 7:00 p.m. this evening when the polls close here in Texas. The following election day prayer is adapted from one that was produced by Box Hill Baptist Church in Victoria, Australia, and posted on their Unboxed Worship website.

Lord, we give you thanks for the privileges and responsibilities
of living in a democratic society.  Give us wisdom to play our part at election time, so that  through the exercise of each vote,  your Kingdom may come closer.

Protect us from the sins of despair and cynicism. G uard us against the idols of false utopias  and strengthen us to make politics a noble calling  that serves the common good of all.  We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ Our Lord.  Amen.

Peace in Christ,
Pastor Mitch

Disciples Women's Ministries Meets
Monday, November 11, 2019, 9:30 AM

Ladies, is Monday, November 11, 9:30 AM
on your calendar?

Our Disciples Women's Ministries meets the second Monday of each month 9:30 a.m., for fellowship over coffee, bible study, a brief business meeting and to continue our service building beautification work project. Last month, we had a great hands-on project to clean up/clean out the nursery.  This month we will begin on the library.

Continuing the bible study theme, The Church on a Mission, the November study is titled, "Abide in Me as I Abide in You: Bearing Fruit That Will Last." The text is from the gospel according to John 15:1-17. Summarizing the theme, Jesus calls us to "abide in me," and when we do, the results are clear: fruitful service and loving character.

Mary Acree and Red Burch are hostesses this month. Anna Marie Blair will facilitate the study. To prepare please follow this link to the study guide.

Faith will be our guide as together we find our role in Christ's service within today's world. We are the church.

A place is reserved for YOU  Monday, November 11.

Pantry Focus for November: Toilet Paper

"THOSE WHO ARE GENEROUS ARE BLESSED, FOR THEY SHARE THEIR BREAD WITH THE POOR." -Proverbs 22:9

This is "Toilet Paper"  month  at RRCC.   Let's load our food pantry tub in the Welcome Center to overflowing each Sunday!

Your donations of  Toilet Paper  (or cash or check designated for the Round Rock Area Serving Center) will help stock empty shelves and feed hungry neighbors in our community.

Mark your grocery list every week for the Round Rock Area Serving Center.
Box Tops

So far this year, RRCC has earned $77
in Box Tops for Union Hill Elementary School!

Traditional Box Tops clips are being phased out of production, but may continue to be found on many products throughout the store. You can still clip and send them to school.
Every valid Box Tops clip is worth 10¢ for your school. Make sure each one has a clearly visible product acronym and expiration date.

* All valid Box Tops clips submitted per the Program Rules by a
Coordinator(s) of (an) eligible, enrolled school(s) will be honored.

Eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only. Participating brands are starting to change their packaging from a traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Top label.
If you see this label, use the new Box Tops app to scan your receipt. Box Tops are still worth 10¢ each for your school. The app will find participating products purchased at any store and instantly add cash to your school's earnings online.

Elder's Prayer Corner/Closing Messag e

Lately I have been thinking a lot about communion; yes, the breaking of bread and drinking the symbolic blood of Christ. It has come to my belief that Jesus gave these symbols for us to have another way to connect with him. As we take communion, which as Disciples we do every week, it should not be viewed just a ritual or tradition. The bread and the cup allow us to not only hear the words and see the writings of the bible but to use all our other senses like touch, smell and taste the experience physical being of Christ. If we believe in Christ and that he walked and lived on this earth as we do, we also need to use other senses to remind us that He was with us and still is.

Prayer:
Lord, we praise your name and lift our eyes to you. Let us remember the sacrifice Jesus made here on earth for our sins and we can be closer to him through communion with him. For He led the first super with his 12, and He came to earth to show us how to live and treat each other. Forgive us for not living up to the way He led us. Bless this church and help us do your will.  Amen.
