Reno is getting its first new full-service hospital in more than a century as Northern Nevada Health System officially broke ground for its new medical center.

State officials say Reno's population boom is on pace to grow by more than 100,000 residents over the next 10 years. To accommodate residents, our regional health care system joined forces to create the Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center.
The new facility will feature nearly 200 private patient rooms. Officials says the new hospital will improve access to healthcare, offer more choices for patients, and serve as an extension of the quality care already offered within the Health System.

The Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center will be built in south Reno, boasting 350,000 square feet of hospital and medical office space as well. The new hospital campus, which will be located on Double R Boulevard and Longley Lane, is expected to employ 1,000 new healthcare workers.

"The rapid growth of our region signifies the need to expand healthcare services so patients can access care at the facility of their choice," Alan Olive, CEO said. "Our new hospital will focus on the same core values we have embraced at Northern Nevada Medical Center for nearly 40 years."

Northern Nevada Health System is projecting a 2022 opening date for the new hospital campus. The construction of the facility will begin later this year and is expected to create 1,500 jobs. Las Vegas-based SR Construction will be heading construction of the new medical center.

Services that will be available in the center include:
Emergency care
Labor and delivery
Neonatal intensive care
Surgical services
Orthopedics
Oncology
Cardiovascular
Neurology

The medical center will also provide outpatient services via medical office buildings.
