Fun Fact #25
With Mother's Day recently past, SPAN would like to express our gratefulness to ALL caregivers: mothers, fathers, siblings, grandparents, other blood relatives, adopted families, foster parents, and all those others who are involved in raising our children.

SPAN's Grandmothers as Caregivers works through the Essex Family Council to provide information, training, support and leadership development to parents and grandparents in Essex County, NJ, especially those who are raising children, youth and young adults with special needs, including mental health needs.
Annual conferences are geared toward helping for grandmothers who are raising their grandchildren take better care of themselves and their grandchildren.

In April 2017, SPAN's Grandmothers as Caregivers collaborated with Essex Family Council, the Department of Children and Families, the H.U.B.B. (Help Us Become Better/FP YouthOutCry Foundation) and Newark CityPlex12 Cinema to host a Taking Care of You Health Fair that garnered over 200 participants!

Past events have focused on health & wellness issues such as:
  • Nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Preventing/Addressing Diabetes & Asthma
  • Emotional Health
  • Stress Reduction
  • Blood Pressure Screening
  • Healthy Mind, Living, Eating
  • Childhood Immunizations, and more
SPAN is grateful to our mothers, grandmothers, fathers, grandfathers, and ALL the caretakers of our children! We open our hearts to you, our donors, for opening your hearts and wallets to help us continue providing support to our extended family caregivers.

In deepest appreciation,
Diana Autin & Debra Jennings
